Spoiler choice for a 2006 C230 Sport Edition
Newbie here and just bought the wife a Mars Red 2006 MB C230 Sport edition. I want to put a spoiler on the trunk lid that resembles the 2007 model as much as possible but have had limited info about who's got the right one that looks and fits well. Since the only factory one available is the ugly euro style, the dealer will paint and install an aftermarket one of my choice for free do to a screw up on their part. Any help including pics would be great. Had no idea the 2007 trunk lid was different than the 2006 sport model so the 2007 spoiler will not fit to to 2006. If I knew this in advance I probably would have bought a 2007. Need some MB experts out there to help asap. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I never would have guessed that as well. Is the 2005 trunk different? I replaced the stock spoiler on my car with the MB part (it came painted) because I broke mine trying to take it off and replace the adhesive. I had the JBSPEED spoiler on my old 06 C230 and it was pretty good, but the factory spoiler is worth the money in my opinion because it fits perfectly and looks the best. However, if you don't want to spend that much the JBSPEED ones seems to be the next best.

Check out the classified forum for our venders. They have pics of the spoilers on their threads. I got a cf spoiler from Gary on his thread. Fits perfectly and if you don't like cf look you can just paint it Mars red. The spoiler is similar to the c32 spoiler.

Thanks phister! I checked some vendors using google but would love to see some painted and installed on the 06. I'll check out the vendors. Thanks for the info.

I suspected the 07 trunk lid was different, as well. Drew and I compared his 07 with my 05 and couldn't tell a difference so it must be under the spoiler. I thought the 07 spoiler would fit, though.

Thanks Matt! I did more looking around online and compared pics I've seen of a 2005 C230 Kompressor Sport with the 2006 C230 Sport that I have and the trunk lid looks exactly the same. I've yet to see a pic of any factory lip spoiler installed on either though. If anyone finds one, please post it.

What do you think of this kind of spoiler? Any ideas or comments? I found this pic on here of someone's ride. i think it looks pretty good and can see it's a 2006 trunk lid.

I some how cant imagine for 1 year they would change the rear trunk just for a spoiler, esp since not every car got a sport treatment. What exactly would be different, since a C55 spoiler is the same as the sport one isnt it? And I see plenty of those on non 07 cars.

Easy answer is to look at the EPC and see if the trunk lid has different part numbers for the '06 and '07. I am betting it doesn't.
Most dealers are notorious for refusing to admit that anything from one year will fit on another year car. I will be able to check EPC in the next day or two at work (I can't get it to work on my laptop at home)...but someone may beat me to it. Glyn....?

It looks like the spoiler for the 2006 and the 2007 are the same part number.
I just used examples from eBay and ran VINs from them. EPC only lists two spoilers, the one on the 2006 (and 2007) and the spoiler on the C55. The trunk lid is the same since about 2003, with the steel stamping being the same with the earlier ones since they interchange. It just lists additional parts (appears to be springs, etc) that would have to be replaced on pre-2003 models.
2006 C230

Trunk Lid: A2037500675 (#10 in drawing)
Spoiler: A2037900788 (#450 in drawing)
2007 C230
WDBRF52H17F906525
Trunk Lid: A2037500675 (#10 in drawing)
Spoiler: A2037900788 (#450 in drawing)
Other Spoiler: A2037900888 (#440 in drawing -
which is listed on a C55 WDBRF76J36F747742)
Regardless, the stamping for the trunk lid appears to be the same across the board. Don't know what your dealer is talking about - but I think I know which orifice he is talking out of. If the trunk lids are the same, the spoilers will swap, and even the C55 has the same trunk lid part number.

From what I understand, all 2007 Sport editions came with a factory installed spoiler. Now that I have a little knowledge and seen more than a few, the 06 and 07 look basically the same except for the addition of a spoiler and the rim style changed. The dealer tells me that in 06 there was a Luxury edition C230 and Sport edition. The Sport edition has a different trunk lid that is already slightly raised. I haven't seen a luxury edition to know if there is any truth in that or not. Thanks for posting the detailed part info. I'll bring it when I go back to see what they got for me from the aftermarket. If what you are telling me is true, then they are bullcrapping me about not screwing up. I'll show you a pic of the spoiler they installed, the one they said was the ONLY option for me for this car from the factory. It's not my car, but I found a pic on the site here of someone else's. I never ever seen that style of spoiler on a 2006. Here, it shown on a c320. Of course I have a C230. It's fugly!

dang that is ugly lol... I believe the dealership is blowing smoke up your backside. I dont think they'd change one single years model right before they release a brand new model out, they'd be a waste of money making parts specifically for just a 07 model. The guys at dealership might be looking at the late 2007 models which would be the 2008 models since towards the end of the year they start putting out next years model.
I would ask them to grab a spoiler from a 07 and have them test fit on yours to see if it does or not.

Oh dear. Your dealer is full of shat. All 2005-2007 USDM C230s were Sport models. There was no luxury C230 here. All 2007s have the spoiler which Mike has been kind enough to clarify will fit any of the trunk lids. I can't believe dealers are this clueless.

Lol yea some dealers are clueless on cars they just say what they have to memorize about the cars so they can pitch the highlights of the vehicle. I remember a guy at the acura dealership saying my old prelude had a v6 in it.

Yeah, I'm beginning to see that at the Mercedes dealership. When I test drove the car I bought she told me it had a 4 cylinder in it. Of course it had a V6 but I didn't wAnt her to look stupid since I hadn't made my best deal yet. I probably should have left soon after the test drive to avoid all the BS I got to deal with now! Argh!

They still claim the 07 spoiler won't fit the sport model 06. I'm going there tomorrow to take a look at the aftermarket spoiler they got for me. I have no idea what it looks like or who they got it from. I will need to see the books and pics of what they are looking at to tell me there is a difference. I can't believe everyone here tells me the truck is the same and dealer sees something else. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough for me!!! Kep your comments and info coming. I need all the ammo I can get to prove them wrong.

There is a Luxury Sedan, the C280s are all Luxury and the C350 can come in either. GetMercedesParts.com shows the exterior trunk lid is the same from 01-07 and various bits the same from 04-07. Are you actually talking to the parts department or talking to them through your sales person? Someone is trying to cover their ***.

Yes, you are correct about the C280 having a Luxury edition. I just noticed that after looking around. It also appears to have the same trunk lid as the 06 sport. I tried looking everywhere on the net to find an 06 luxury model. I couldn't find any. Like others have said, all sport models for 06. Someone at the dealership must be looking at something else. The GM seems to want to please me and give me what I want which I appreciate, but something is wrong here. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it tomorrow. The wife wants her freakin car back!

You want to have fun? Ask them to give you the part numbers for the different trunk lids. I'll post ALL the trunk lid part number (and what superceeds what) for you in a little while. They all interchange. Let them show you and the GM in the EPC the two different trunk lids.
