20's for idiots like me
OK, have been down this road before, read the forum, re read it and confused the **** out of myself.
At the moment I have 18x8's ( I think...it was a couple of years back), anyway, the fronts hit my coilovers and I hadto put spacers on.
From memory the offset was 32, and I have 5mm spacers on the front.
Once I bought (ebay special) a set of 19's that came off a W210 and where miles too wide, rears scrubbed every bump and fronts wouldnt clear the coilovers to fit so I sold them.
Anyway, enough of the story...... Have found some more ebay specials, this time 20's they are brabus VI knockoffs, came off a 208 CLK tyres are 225/35's offset is 33 and comes with spacers, bolts etc.
I have sent off a question asking how wide they are.
OK so my current wheels have seen better days, and although i could spend a weekend sanding out the gutter marks and another weekend with autosol and a cloth, I cant be bothered.
I should bite the bullet and go to the wheel shop, dig deep in the pocket, and let them do the homework for me, but, I have spent a couple of grand on the motor in the last couple of weeks and I need every penny I can get
Laziness and poor equals ebay!
So the question in brief, are these likely to fit my car?
Does the offset increase or decrease with spacers?
Am I correct in assuming that just because something fits a CLK, it (although should) may not fit a W203?
I see a few W203s floating around slammed on 20's usually chrome "dolce" wheels, but I've never seen a C Class with 20' Brabus knockoffs.
I'm over modded cars so I sound like a hypocrite but if these are likely to fit then I'm happy to bolt them up, as they will look nice.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Phil

The higher the offset the deeper into the wheel well the wheel goes so if you say you have a +33 offset compared to a +25 the +25 wheel will stick out further. Heres an article about wheel offset. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101
So basically the closer you get to 0 offset the further out your wheel will stick out. My friends are running -19 offsets on their 350zs to get the "deep dish" look that jdm cars like.
Putting 20's on our cars would be overkill IMO 19 at the most I think would good. If you dont plan on lowering your car I say go with a set of 18's or 19's and call it a day.

+33 offset on the wheels will be ok, you might have some rubbing in the rears, but you can go to a body shop and have them roll and pull the fenders for you, its not that expensive.

I agree, 20's would be overkill, 19's tuck in nicely, 18's just look too small!
Having said that they are cheap, cash is king at the moment! I'm thinking of having a stab and buying them, worst case scenario I guess I'll just resell them.

I'm sure you can find some nice 19s for sale on ebay or you should look around salvage yards and see if you can find a straight set of wheels. Ever just consider getting your wheels resurfaced and polished

The decent wheels on eBay Australia are usually priced high, bargains can be had for the patient people, but rarely the exact size you'd hope for.
A guy advertised his 19's recently, they look like carlson rims but they are painted... Tempting now I think about it to buy them and paint them midnight blue to suit the car.

Yeah I have will cost about $150 a wheel, if I wasn't so lazy I would do it myself. The 18's have never looked quite right, I should have bought 19's from the start so as it stands (lazy town) I can spend $600 on wheels I never quite liked or a couple more and have bigger wheels- no guarentee in 2 weeks I won't whinge they look too big lol.

I have 18s and they dont look to bad IMO since my cars lowered so the gap isnt really there. I hear you about having wheels you dont like, when I bought my civic si before I got this one, it came with some ugly konig wheels so I got some different ones then got tired of those and stepped my game up and got Volk GT-7 in 18s then sold those and got some Advan RS in 17s lol went through alot of wheels in a 2 year span. Now I'm thinking of selling my cls500 wheels I have on my car now and getting something else, I like the concaved look but I like the stepped lip wheels on our cars. Might have to start saving and get the Work wheels I like....

the link is of my car actually for another thread, pay no attention to how it looks at the moment, I loaned the car to my brother, but some of the photos should show the wheels. In the right pics you will see how they are just that bit too small for the car, in my opinion. I think different style wheels can look dramaticaly different if they are the wrong size, if that makes sense. I still think the best wheels to suit a w203 are the lorinsers that look simmilar to the hammers.

It doesn't look small, but I know what you're talking about, some wheels with lips look smaller than what they actually are because there's less surface area showing, kinda like the BBS LM, but those wheels are dam sexy! My cls500 wheels look bigger than what they are because the spokes extend all the way to the edge of the wheel.
