C230K won't shift after storage!

I have searched this forum and found many reposnses to this question, but non of then seem to fit my situation.

My C230K has sat for about 2 years. Everything was fine when I parked it. Recently I pulled it out and did the brakes, and an oil change on it. Car starts and runs great as always. Check engine light is now on but havent cycled through many ignition cycles so am not sure if it will go out or not.

Problem is, the car will not shift out of first gear. Pulls hard in first, but won't shift. Even trying to maunaully shift with the paddle option doesnt work. If I press the W/S button, it also does not change the trans setting.

I have replaced the battery with a brand new one during the service.

Any help or tricks would be greatly appreciated!! I was hoping it was a simple electrical reset like everything else in the car. Thanks in advance.

Unhappy

Update. I bought a scanner to check the codes. I get the following code: P0702 which apprears to indicate a Transmission Control Unit. I cleared the code, took it for a short drive (in first gear) and the code came back. I am curious how that could go bad from sitting, but oh well....

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get one besides a dealer?

Also, if anyone has any other ideas for me to try I would appreciate it. It worked fine before storage.

where to do live? you need a good indy to mess with the tcu. You could check the tcu for oil damage its under the passenger side carpet.

Get the car onto a Star & let them re-adapt the TCU

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
Possible oil seepage to the TCU from the tranny.
Check the connector on the tranny,
TCU is under the right side floorboard.
If it's all clean, I'd go with Glyn's idea.

Yup! leaking electrohydraulic bush O rings are worth a check.

These cars don't like sitting with everything powered down for long periods.

If we need to store the car for longer periods of time, what do we need to do to ensure no problem arises? By the way, my ML hasn't been started for the past 3 months and I won't be starting it for at least 9 more months. I removed the battery connections.

3 months is nothing but for longer I would keep the car powered up with a small 12 volt power supply. Just remember not to try & start it until you reconnect a fully charged battery.

If you are going to keep the car powered up then take the battery right out of the vehicle. Batteries don't give of much gas when not being charged but I would not have one close to a power source completely unattended & unventilated.

I was on an ad shoot once & a jerk kept sparking a battery with a clamp. I told him to stop it but he ignored me. Then the battery exploded & he had acid in his eyes - what a mess!
