Dallas Get-together Set for May 10... Chance to drive TMS, too!
This date/time was chosen because TMS is also holding its "Laps for Children Charity" event (6:00pm-10:00pm). The 1.5 mi speedway will be open to the public (each 3 lap drive = $25 donation). Speedway officials will safety inspect your car and then lead you around the oval behind a pace car. This should be a great opportunity to get pictures of your car in a unique setting, so bring your camera along, and a non-alcoholic cooler, lawn chairs, etc.
We can all gather on the parking lot near the gathering point for the charity drive, talk awhile, etc... then people could drive around the speedway once it opens, if they choose.
Of course, you are NOT obligated to partake in the TMS drive-around... I just thought this would be a great two-fer opportunity to meet fellow members structured around a unique chance to drive on the TMS high banks... Almost certainly, other car clubs will be meeting at TMS on this date, too.
Please post below if you plan to attend, and monitor this thread for plans/weather updates as the date approaches.
For more information about the Charity Laps for Children, you can call the Speedway Promotions office, at (817) 215-8564

Weather permitting... This year's Dallas area MB get-together will be held May 10, from 4:30(ish) pm (til ?) on the parking lot at Texas Motor Speedway...

Bob --- Any idea what speeds the pace cars allow you to reach? Sounds like a great event, other than the tomatoes that will be thrown at my 530i from you M-B folks...
I'll be terrorizing D/FW in an '04 E500 Sport when the BMW lease is up!

I'd be curious to know what speeds we'll see at the oval, and will they let us loose at the oval?

Here is more information about the drive around the speedway (Again, this is optional, but here is the scoop, FYI)...
The donation is $25 per car, as many riders as the car allows, but each MUST wear their belts and sign a liability waiver... any Kids must be 6 or older to ride on the track... You can take as many 3-lap rides as you want... $25 each.
The three laps consist of a drive out the pit exit, two passes of the start/finish line, then re-entry to pit lane third time around.
There will be a pace car in front and in back (no dropping back to punch it) and all cars must keep to a given pace. No passing allowed. Speed will generally be limited to 75-85 mph... (I've been told -- but not by the charity -- the speed sometimes goes a little higher later in the evening when there are fewer cars on the track) There is no inspection, but the car must be in good order with no leaks. No alcohol allowed. The charity stresses this is a family-oriented, safety-oriented event.
You can take photos of cars on the track from a designated area on pit lane (no roaming around to all four corners of the track). Official photos in victory circle will also be available from a professional photographer. $10 a picture (half going to the charity)
Cars will not be flighted, but will be taken out on a first-come basis. I'm told there is a line at the opening (6pm) but that the traffic gets lighter as the evening gets later. The folks at the charity say the later times (under the lights) are best. But this old fart is NOT hanging around from 4:30 til 10... just so you know.
This is the 5th year for this event, which they now hold twice a year.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Well, maybe next time.
Bummer....I was wondering the other day if we were gonna do this again since last year was rainy and nasty. I have a golf tourament in Flower Mound that day (Lantana). I'll try to catch you guys next time!
Just for sh*ts and giggles, I might constipate driving over there for the meet. Seems like you conservatives need a liberal dosing of liberalism.
Would be a long haul, but might be worth it just for the look on our favorite weathergirl's face.
We have a very diverse population in N. Texas, but we don't have any Smurfs. Bleeding heart liberal Smurfs at that. We could chain you to the winner's circle stanchions behind some curtains and the children's charity could charge $10 a peek.
Call me a weathergirl... :p
