Inheriting a 2002 c230 Kompressor, and hello

My folks are handing me down a bone-stock '02 c230 Kompressor in red, with about 96,000 miles on it. Rather than take the miserable trade-in allowance that they were offered, after the automatic transmission went out on them in OH, they decided to just finance a $47,000 '11 c300 non-Sport (yes, I asked them, of course). They're throwing in the rollback delivery of the car to the dealership and offering them a fairly sweetheart deal, or at least my parents think so, and the new tranny is going to run them $3,100.

I don't remember a ton of information about what the car came with originally, but I've been fishing through this and a few other forums to see what's available by way of improvements. Hopefully I won't ask too many dumb questions as I take this thing on, but I'm a bit lost on what else to do besides chipping, pulleying, and putting a new air filter set-up in the car. Since it's free to me, I don't mind putting a little into this to have an around-town ride with more than a bit of elegance.

Welcome! You'll find that the spark plug changes on the 4 cylinder are much much easier than the v6's.

Enjoy the new ride, hopefully your tranny sorrows are over soon enough!

I don't have a lot of advice, but enjoy your car!

It is a Mercedes after all, and all Mercedes have a bit of something special about them. Plus, the W203 has great aesthetics. I'm sure you're going to enjoy driving around in it.

I hope your parents enjoy the W204 too. It's hard to find one loaded up like that $47,000+. Most at the dealers are stripped, sounds like they got a good one!

Wow! You got a good one. Get the ASP pulley. That car will run with the BMW 325/328

I think the trans can be done for cheaper. Me, I have over 212,000 miles on my Coupe. No problems.

Take some pictures, show your car off, and get that pulley for improved performance.

Welcome - enjoy. Service your new tranny every 38,000 miles! & it will last forever.

Nice to have another Red car on the forum.
