C240 Elegance - Uneventful 60,000Km service

Full 60,000 Km B Service performed today.

- Bumper to bumper inspection & Star Diag check - Zero defects.
- Oil & filter change with our 229.5 10W-30 DTC Racing Formulation (Low VI Improver content, carefully selected PAO base stock, 23% additive - just for fun)
- Brake fluid flush/replace
- Transmission flush & filter
- Good news - castor bushes as new when originals were cracked at this mileage
- Corrosion check - negative

Running beautifully

Went in spotless - came out even more spotless & with a full engine & engine compartment clean. Even cleaned my slightly shiny steering wheel & shift knob back to as new with a new local product called PolyClean.

I guess I'm a very satisfied customer. MBSA rocks! They own the dealership.

Thats great Glyn, it's nice to hear there are other early model c240's without any major problems.

That's good to hear. My slightly shiny steering wheel is still cleaning up well. However, I think I might buy a new one so I can touch new leather again. How long is the leather meant to last on these? What about the dye color?

The leather will last a long time if cared for. Mine shows no sign of loosing colour but if it does I have Gliptone Leathercare recolouring product perfectly matched from the UK for seats, wheel, shift boot, Door panels etc.

Thanks - SA built pre-facelift cars were completely debugged by 2002. Remember we started building in 2000 & did much of the endurance testing here & Namibia when faults started showing in early cars that had only seen computer simulated testing. The US saw the W203 late.

The only residual problem we had was castor bushes. A problem that has even plagued some W204's. When they replaced mine FOC I was sceptical that the replacements were any better. Well I guess I was wrong.

Report back after a day's driving:

Brakes have firmed after bleeding & fluid change. I guess no surprise.

Transmission performance is improved - not my imagination. There is no doubt that these transmissions like new fluid. My transmission felt just fine prior to this change but it is now super smooth - especially on downchanges as one coasts to a halt.

It is hard to explain because I'm being super critical - but it is almost as though some minor lash has been removed from the transmission. The Torque Converter clutching seems better. The good old 722.6 5 speed auto really is a fine tranny.

Good to hear your virgin is running flawlessly, Glyn. How’s that Jaguar restoration coming along?

Too slowly splinter. I'm about to remove it from the present restorer to get it finished. I think he expects me to pay for his kids tuition. I have a very good guy to do the finishing touches.

It gets plenty of driving. The reason the mileage is low is that I was overseas for the first 3 years of it's life - so it saw little use.

The benefits of Virgins

They have not learned any bad habits or "tricks" that let you down when you least expect it. They have not been "screwed" up by previous owners

That makes virgins boring. When it comes to maintenance - I want boring

Troublesome "models" with previous experience always seem to give you the most crap. Crap "service" follows crap users that don't treat the "model" well. This can lead to a "breakdown" in the relationship with expensive consequences
