couple of weirdness/error msg with the coupe. should i be concerned?

i've been getting some weird errors with my coupe and wondering if its time to go to dealer (which i'm not too fond of...they're not bad really just stupid). After some spirited driving (hard corners/accel) I get the BAS/ESP errors.....turn key off then turn back on they go away. Sat. after a some "spirited driving" when i started my car it automatically went into Winter mode eventhough before turning off i was in Summer mode. After about 3 turn on/off it will start back right again and havent act up since then. Last, i tried the FSS oil measuring thing and last 2 times i measured it stated i need 1 quart of oil. NOw it just say perf service on time. I'm having hard time replicating these messages to take to dealer. Any suggestions?

Don't know about your BAS/ESP messages, but "perform service on time" means that you haven't waited long enough after shutting off the car to check the oil; "oil level o.k." is the correct response if oil levels are correct. The "perform service on time" is somewhat confusing as it implies that everything is OK - this message is probably the result of a subtle difference between German and English.

Cheers, BT

Yes, I had that one. Same exact thing happened. It's a bad switch, I can look on my service history to give you more detail if you want. I drove around with it for a while.

I hate to say this, but you should take it in. As you might guess, I have tried a number of MB service centers in the Bay Area, I assume you go to Belmont or San Jose. I was not to impressed with Belmont, and never made it to San Jose.

The best IMHO is RAB in Marin. They are really, really good and not stupid. They also give E-class loaners. I know it's a long distance from you.

Hey, take a 1/2 day off from work and drop it off and we can go test drive cars in Marin (great roads for test driving). I want to test drive the new Z, but believe it or not, I think I'm going to get an SLK.

Cheers,

Beth

BAS/ESP

The ESP/BAS message is well documented on this forum. If you run a search on that you'll get a lot of information. Anyway, I've got that messages 3 or 4 times. I went to the dealer and they were well aware of it (is a common error on the C class). They ordered some parts and after they replaced them the message was gone. You don't need to reproduce the problem to show the dealer what it was because a fault message gets stored on the car's computer. But you SHOULD GO to the dealership and get it fixed.
Good luck,

Angel

Do a search for the BAS/ESP error... it's been discussed in the past.

I had that same problem... dealer replaced a wiring harness... I don't remember if it was a recall, but they knew about the problem and had to order the part. That was at about 15k and I now have 29k and the problem has not reoccured.

No, I didn't pay for it because mine was under warranty. I don't think they would do it for free unless there is a recall or something.

I heard once there was a site where I can check if there were any recalls for my car model or something... anyone knows it?

They probably replaced the three brake pressure sensor wires where they meet the ESP control unit. Oxidization tends to form at that connection and sets a code for brake pressure sensor. They cut off the three wires about 5 inches back and solder on new wires, then clean the contacts at the ESP unit.
