Some Logan Statements that my late friend Heinz Zaczek of Absolute Sound SA & I installed at another friend's home. See pdf. They were the last pair of Statements that Gale Sanders made.

My good friend Matthew Tang's "modest" system in Hong Kong. Fully restored Infinity IRS V's. As you can see home theatre takes a back seat.

There is no end to limits. Case in point, Fred's system in Houston. Gotta love the Acapella Triolon Excalibur speakers. Not eveyone's cup of tea, but he loves them.

Trey - go buy a house. Much better investment. If the bug bites you will spend the equivalent of a couple of houses over the years. I've calmed down now to Magneplanar Loudspeakers everywhere (can't stand anything in a box apart from subs for HT only) & Audio Research electronics with wildly modified Shanling components & every format ever known to man on the front end. My passion is music - the gear is just a means to that end. My music collection is huge. My latest nonesense is buying guitars to decorate my theatre. Recently bought a Fender Strat, Ovation semi acoustic, Gibson Les Paul & a Rickenbacker bass. Good Audio runs far more expensive than Mercs. Audio is very rewarding but it's very like a yacht - you just keep throwing money at it for very deminished returns.

The Martin Logan Statement/Audio Research/Clearaudio system in the pdf. We spent $65,000 on cables alone by the time it was finished. Just put Audio Research's new Reference pre-amp & CD player into the system.

Not sure how this thread turned into a home theater/audio discussion..lol. But heres my addition.
Vintage Pioneer Fluoroscan from the 70's...I love the fact that these units cant be purchased today at the store...lol...much like my coupey!
All units except for 1 purchased used in non-working condition and restored by myself to brand new condition..recently got it appraised by the editor of an audio magazine and apparently its worth over $8000...enjoy

For other brands, I've got a two full racks of SAE Computer-Direct Line gear in the sun room and a Yamaha 5.1 system in the master bedroom.
Yes, I have a very understanding wife.

Cool stuff. I always liked the Fluoroscan line. I've got a SA-8800 and CT-F950 in my garage system. I also have a SX-3900 in the guest room.

Now back on subject
Step one compete; spec'd and purchased the parts. MTX TT6512 shallow subs and a SoundStorm SSL EV2.1000 amp. Now on to step two; building the box.

Soundstorm/MTX et al are sleepers I will agree for the price - but here we will disagree. They can't match JL Audio for accuracy. JL have the pedigree
JL Audio & Velodyne build the finest subs in the world & their cabinets are engineered to perfection.(sound perfection)

I'm interested in your love of JBL speakers. We were the Harman agents in SA after they took over some of the brands we represented here & put up with all of Dr Sidney Harman's BS until we told him to take a hike - He ruined companies like Arnie Nudell's Infinity & Levinson & trashed other good brands like Proceed after buying Madrigal. We had respect for JBL in the pro market but never really considered them in the hi end domestic audio market. You seem to have plucked some fair units from their range.

I look at specs to get a base line but my ears tell me what I like or don't like. I spent years researching and educating myself on what it was that I liked or didn't like. What part of the system was responsible it; bass, midrange, high. What components produced those sounds and how the frequencies mesh. What words described it; sound stage, depth of field, speed, transparency, synergy...to name a few. So, I consider myself an audio enthusiast. I don't take myself to seriously, enjoy the music and always have fun. This way I can enjoy a very wide range of gear, speakers and systems. No, they don't all sound the same and the prices vary expotentially.
My simple thought is, if audio nirvana = 100%
You can get to 80% with 25% of your budget
To get to 90%, will take another 25% of your money
To get to 95% the other 50% of your budget
And each additional percent is exponential in cost.
Eveyone must determine for themselves, if it is worth it.

Ah! That explains it!
You are so right about deminished returns for your hard earned cash!
