MPG problem 2005 230k
So I took the car in for a B Service at the local MB dealership. They advised me that its probably due for a new fuel filter (70k miles). They were going to charge me $250 so I decided against it, after all it has been getting 33+ mpg on the freeway. So literally the day after I had the service, the best MPG I can get is 29-30 on the freeway. I am new to MB ownership and am a bit weary of the dealerships for most car manufacturers, but was led to believe that MB dealerships are the best for taking care of those major services. Any ideas? They did replace the airfilter (charged an extra $45 for that...). I guess I'm thinking paranoid that the MB dealership would sabotage?

I would imagine that lots of places are changing over to winter fuel and this will almost always cause gas mileage to go down. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine's down too.

a mpg issue would be going from 31 to 15, dropping 3 to 5 is a normal effect that can occur via weather, driving style, or 1000 other things. I really wouldn't worry or blame any one, not every tank will get you the same mpg. And something this little is really no big deal.

Totally understandable now. I was just worried about the timing being right after MB tune. Overlooked the obvious... usually I take the car to a local shop that refuses to sell ethanol added premium gas, then after I picked up the car my wife filled up at a cheap road stop. She now understands that the crappy gas isn't worth the $1.50 she saved. Thanks for the help.
