coolant system education needed.
So today i was driving my 2003 C 240 around town, and a malfunction popped up. It said check coolant level. I pulled over, waited a while to open the coolant reservoir to find it completely filled to the top.
Please excuse my ignorance but I am a new Mercedes owner. Is the reservoir supposed to be completely filled without any room for expansion?
I monitored the temperature as i was driving and it stayed around 80-90 degs C. Is that a normal range?
If the answer is yes to both questions, what could cause the malfunction that displayed saying to check my coolant level?
also a split second later a second malfunction showed, said to check windshield fluid level. That was actually low.
Does MB recommend a specific type of coolant or can you use any good name brand (preston etc)?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Did you also get a warning saying to check the windshield washer fluid level?
The coolant and windshield washer sensors are wired in the same circuit and some hairbrained idiot at Benz forgot to balance the load....so when one sensor trips, it may trigger the wrong or both warnings.
Top off your windshield fluid first and then check the warning...

Yes i did get both. I was wondering if it was coincidental or not.
I did top it off, took a whole gallon.
So that may explain both malfunctions correct?
