I've looked at several vendors including those that sell Genuine MB parts for oil filters and none of them seem to sell fleece oil filters for the 2005 C230K. They seem to start at 2006. Then I looked at the Factory Approved Service Products September 2006 and on page 5 it says:
229.5 or 229.51 engine oils must be
used in conjunction with fleece oil filter
( page 14) in vehicles with Mercedes-
Benz Maintenance System (as of
MY2005). Using other oil filters may
lead to engine damage which is not
covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited
Warranty.
Now I'm confused... Am I misunderstanding something. I haven't seen any fleece oil filters for the 2005 C230K. What do I do?
Any comments?
Thanks!

It looks like they aren't available for the 2005 C230K. I guess I have no choice but to get paper.

Here is the history behind the problem - read carefully:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...=fleece+filter
The Fleece filter is only available for V6 & greater engines in the US. No more fleece for M271 being imported even though many cars will have stickers etc telling you to use them.
This was a bad move by MBUSA.

they also have a mann name brand filter that is yellow and doesn't look like the fleece variant...

Yeah there are no fleece filters anymore for the M271. We've covered it a dozen times. My last oil analysis proves that the HENGST filter is fine for 13000 mile intervals, though.
RBM of Atlanta told me that they have never, ever used fleece filters on M271 cars even back during 2003 when the free maintenance plan was still in place.
I don't worry about it. My car's fine.

Maverick259 - the K&N filter is indeed a Mann fleece sold by K&N.
As Glyn M Ruck has already mentioned it's for the V6 C230 - not the 271

wsw is right. K&N doesn't list the 4 cyl engine as an application for the HP-7004, only six cylinder engines.
I'll get the paper filters for my car (2005 C230K) and fleece filters for my wife's (2006 C230) and stop worrying about it.
Thanks everyone for the discussion!

Oh, in case some of you haven't found out about them, it looks like http://www.germanfilters.com is a great place to get filters. I can get 10 oil filters for my 2005 C230K (Mann HU 5140) for $93.92 - shipping is free on orders over $50. Anybody know about them that should make me concerned?

HP - 7004 is K&N's number for the M112 V6 engines.

So does anyone know where we can get the fleece filters online? I'd like to do my oil change asap. I think I might have to use the paper filter for now. Is there any harm in putting in the paper filter now and putting the fleece one in when I can get it (maybe a few weeks time if ordering online)?
If anyone has links please post them. Thanks.
