Stuck Shifter

Guys, I need a little help with my wife's 2002 C240. A couple of teeth on the shifter boot broke so it started to ride up, which wasn't that big of a deal, but now its tough to get the car into and out of park. I know if I take it to the dealer they'll charge me a fortune, so if anyone has any ideas on what's wrong with it or how to fix it, please let me know.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is worth a thousand pictures, so here is a link to a little clip I shot of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea9BLZw2NvQ

As for fixing or replacing the leather boot thing, any idea what its called so I can get a replacement?

Thanks!

You poor guy. I had an epic battle with this over the summer.

First thing to look for is to see if you have any debris down in the shifter.

I am short on time, but will come back to this later today.

Guys, thanks for the responses. As you can see in the video, it will shift, it just takes a little elbow grease to get it into and out of park. I can't see any debris down in it, but the broken off plastic clips had to fall somewhere. Trying to avoid pulling the whole thing out but I can't rightly turn the car upside down and shake it, unfortunately.
