2004 c240 4Matic Stalling Problem

I have a 2004 c240 4Matic with 171,000 km. Within the last week, it has on 3 occasions stalled when warm. Last evening it had been driven for 40 minutes and then leftt to idle for 30 minutes. When the car was put into drive it stalled and would not start. After 30 minutes it restarted and no further problems were encountered.

It can be many things - Suggest you get an OBDII scanner & check for stored codes. Lazy O2 sensors, Coils & wires etc can all cause this sort of thing as can a dirty MAF. Do you suffer engine stumble in normal driving?

If I was to guess at the cause I would suspect the cps (crankshaft position sensor). When it cools down it starts to work again but is failing.

It does not experience engine stumble during normal driving. from my preliminary investigation it would seem that the CPS could be the likely fault.

CPS location.

See 5 & retaining torx 11. Back of engine below the Drivers side head for US models. Access difficult.

Bosch or Hella are OE. Check RMeuropean for latest pricing.

Here is M272 pic. Same position on your M112.

Man, I could get to it just fine if the motor was pulled out
Does the MAP sensor have to be removed, I saw some other posts describing to remove the map sensor, pcv valve hoses etc.... There was a photo on how to remove the map top end, just not clear... Thanks
