I see the comand you bought came from a 2001 G500 (part # 463 820 15 89). I seem to recall reading something about 463 comands needing additional adapters. Steve would be the one to answer that question.

C200 CDI w203
it does not need additional adapters but needs a seperate analog speed signal which needs to be taken from for example ABS and this can be found near the A piller on one of the circuit boards: plug 24, pin 3.

The problem is that the 463er comand does not accept any digital speed signal over the can bus (as we have in our w203) but needs an additional analog signal input!! Unnecessary trouble but if you have the comand, it is worth the 45 minutes more work to install it rather than try to sell it and get a proper 203 comand!!

Could someone post the part numbers for Comands that will fit the C230 Coupes? I'd like to find a deal on a Euro Comand on German eBay, but want to be sure I'm getting the right unit.

I belive the part number for the US Comand is 203 820 92 89.

Here you go:

203 820 91 89
203 820 96 89
203 827 36 42
203 827 52 42

The us models are (but i doubt you will find any on the german ebay):
203 820 92 89
203 827 31 42
203 827 37 42
203 827 53 42

the following fit in a w203 too but you have do a bit more work (see above)
463 820 10 89
463 820 15 89

all the above fit all the 203s, that means the sedan, the coupe and the estate!!!

If you are looking on US ebay, they will be very difficult to find.

Personally I think this would/could be easier and more trustworthy then buying one from german ebay as well...but some people rather go for the adventure .

I concur, Steve did a kickass job on my COMAND install! Too bad my dealership is retarded. They say they can't figure out how to activate my nav in the MFD. I'll have to find the instructions on here and print it out for them.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of training courses US MB techs actually get...can't be that much of usefull training...

I think that in the average MB dealership only a few techs actually know how to work with the stardiagnose tools...

for details about comands use the search feature...everything has already been discussed in several threads and I don't want to clog up someone elses forum here...

I got my Comand from Steve and I was lucky enough to have enough instructions from Steve and from this forum to do the installation myself. A regular person should be able to install Comand by him/herself. Installation time can vary, It took me 2-3 hours to install and another 3-4 hours to make it work (the Comand works perfectly but I didn't know at that time that I had to drive my car a few mile radius for the Comand to recognise the area, I thought a few blocks would do. So I installed/un-installed about 5-6 times. I got so accustomed in removing my center console now I can remove my Comand in about 15 minutes ).

The GPS antenna sticks underneath between the center vent and the dashboard. Yep the Comand works like a normal CD player, but I don't wanna use the Comand to play CD, thats why I got myself a CD changer which I also installed myself.
The only thing you need dealer to reprogram your car is when you want your Comand to be displayed on the dashboard display. The Comand works perfectly with or without re-programming.

STeve supplied all the parts, all I needed to do was just to install it. I don't know the part number though maybe you can ask Steve about that.

There is no OEM MB GPS antenna that fits the comand...the comand uses a different connectr then the ones that come with the OEM MB GPS antennas...
