Oh wow. $1400? That's unreasonable w/o repairing any major damage. They aren't willing to provide any concession due to the fact you're providing $4300 in no-nonsense work? I'd pay half that and remove the parts myself.

There is 4 hours labor in there to repair the gouges on both sides of the bumper. I agree it is still a little steep. But, this is a high end shop and the only Mercedes Certified facility. While I was there, I saw some of their work and it is impressive.

$4,300 to repair the tow truck damage seems reasonable. I can't comment on the respray because I know nothing of that stuff.

I suppose the hood and bumper cover are the two pieces worth having the best of the best. 4 hours on gouges! What did you do to that poor fascia! You could just have one or the other painted to save on cost? I'd still push for a discount considering the hassle free $4300 from the insurance company.

When I have my bumper cover repainted, probably going to consider having some sort of protective coating, truck bed lining-esque, sprayed on the underside of the lip. It'd blend in well with your dark color.

Anyway, anxious to see the results.

John,
First off I hope things are working out and that your ride is back to looking great. I was wondering if you had any luck with the diminished value claim through the insurance company and what you need in order to show accelerated depreciation suffered at the moment of impact. Thanks for any reply.

Stone, haven't gone down that road much yet. It costs $500 for a diminished value appraisal to even start, so trying to decide how to precede.

What a nightmare! Almost (i repeat almost) makes me glad that my 528 was totaled instead of having to fight through this nightmare. Good luck, I'm sure the pain you are experiencing now will be rewarded when the work is complete.

Don't bother with that diminished value estimate, John. I did that same thing - paid $500 for a professional diminished value expert to do his estimation and submit it to State Farm. Result? Nothing. They basically laughed. They paid $48-49 dollars or something like that in the end. When I traded it for the Benz 6 months later I got the full KBB trade-in value, though. No deduction for the accident. It was a perfect repair.

Damage was $9,000 worth of front end damage to a 10 month old 07 Civic Si sedan with 22k miles.

That's the most important thing, that you're all OK.
The armored car company should pay all the damage and an extra for scaring you.
