# of beeps at startup?

In the process of installing my comand this weekend I inadvertantly started the car without some stuff plugged in (center console switches, climate control unit, shifter plugs) and got SRS and other(?) errors. I thought I had read that if I did this I'd have to take it in to the dealer and get everything cleared. I hooked everything back up and started again and got no malfunctions (yea), but the number of beeps seems longer than usual. But then again, I might just be imagining it...

So, how many times does your C beep after you start? Right now mine is beeping 13 times. Thanks!

01-04.5 is 13: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYQqaI_F5Rs

Curious if I am the only one who feels that beep in my bones? It is a piercing, almost unbearable noise to my ears. I always buckle my belt before starting the engine to avoid it because it kills a little bit of my soul. They should use it in place of waterboarding.

Same here. In any event, at least you never forget to buckle, which I guess is the objective of the annoying beeps.

If only Dick Cheney had know about it at the time...

I wouldn't forget to buckle if the car had no beeps and no seatbelt warning light. I've been in a couple of accidents, I know the forces involved at even low speeds. No way in hell I'm ever risking not wearing a belt.

Approx 15 times on my car - then resets & starts all over again. It's worse than a whining woman when you have a hangover.

If Mike Tyson popped out of the dash and punched me right in the face it would be less painful than those beeps. Is it possible to rip that speaker out somehow? And stomp on it? And set it on fire?

Actually, when left out in the cold my beeps sound slightly different. Maybe that's the death knell for that speaker?

"annoyance" and "self-righteousness", amoung others...
Matt, before it causes a brain bleed, it might be worth the hassle to have the beep deleted with star or however its done. Neither my 06s have had the beep for some reason.

I am laughing so hard right now my side is hurting! Remember the old "worse than", and "Uglier than" game you played as kids... There is your inspiration, continue.

Yeah if anyone in my area ever gets STAR and even if I have to perform sexual favors, I am getting coding done and that's at the top of my list. I simply can't deal with it. If I do forget to buckle before starting the engine, I can buckle up in RECORD time. Like 3 beeps in and I'm done. Any longer and I might just feel it quicker and less painful to grab the screwdriver out of the glove compartment and ram it into my ear. If Justin Bieber played on the radio for 3 weeks after every start it would be easier to deal with than those 15 beeps. It's a good thing it only beeps when first started. If it did it when I was going down the road it would be less painful to crash into a tree.

I really hate the beep, in case I didn't mention it.

New BMWs bong and it's really not that offensive. It's something about how sharp the Benz sound is.

I'm sure they put that in by law. The point is to annoy people into buckling up, for their own good. If you think this is bad, my friend's 2000 Celica beeps CONTINUOUSLY if the driver's seat belt isn't worn! Imagine a 2h drive with constant beeping..

With that said, I'd suspect there is an integrated speaker (if you can call it that), most likely at the back of the instrument cluster. I'm sure you can simply cut the wire if it bugs you that much. The beeping is definitely not through the regular speakers.

You're right. It is through the regular speakers in the BMW.

Toyota cars demand you wear them. They will beep forever and faster and faster if you don't put them on. I'm not against this, mind you. I just hate the beeps in the Benz because I'm not going to forget.

Then it's been successfully designed, wouldn't you say?

I actually wish the seatbelt reminder monitored every seat in the car and beeped like a Toyota - incessantly until all passengers use the belt.

In my car it monitors every belt in the car if there is weight on the seat. Not centre rear though!

just put the seatbelt on before you sit in the seat (so its behind you) solves the beeping problem if you dont wear your belt

In 01 there is no beep for seat belts. It has a light but it goes off on its own even if you don't put it on. I love my car

I have to chime in here and brag... mine doesnt beep until you start driving about 10kph+. Before that, just the light in the cluster is on. Special coding

Trey - your car's speaker is blown. The 01 should definitely beep. Unless you have it coded that way?

Nick - I really gotta get this done.
