Found out the problem with my new nav unit is actually the antenna. The connector on the antenna I purchased from a reputable aftermarket dealer was pushing the pin in on the mating connector on th enav unit. The factory replaced the nav unit's GPS board(s) twice in the process of figuring this out.

I've searched the forum and know the MB part # (203 820 09 75), but am looking for a current link to an aftermarket GPS antenna that will work. Can any of you guys help me out with this? A place with a good price on the factory antenna would work too.

Finally found a suitable antenna. I found a seller on EBay who used a comand unit as part of their description, so gave it a try. I was thinking I'd get another cheap Chinese unit, but wound up getting a Trimble GPS antenna. It was $26, but once I knew the part number I looked it up and they can be had for $4. Here's the link:
