2004 C230 Kompressor Sport 70kmi.
Purchased October 2010 with 67.3K mi. B service done right before purchase. Both recalls previously done.

I first started hearing this noise maybe a week ago. It used to be only close to first start of my session of driving.

Now, it seems to be more constant. There's a rattling noise/woodpecker sound coming from where the transmission would be.

I haven't lifted the car up yet as I've been busy and it's freaking cold.

Any reports of this or what may be the cause?

Maybe bad transmission mount..take a peek underneath.

Loose exhaust baffle, loose heat shield, broken Cat, damaged exhaust hanger - can be many things. Check that rear GB mount

 

You'll need to give more details like does the noise come while the car is moving (in Drive) and what about if you move the gear to Neutral while the car is moving, does that noise go away?

Ohh hell ya. I saw the protector and then my friend told me about Ong Bak. Insane moves!!!!

 

My wifes car is doing the same thing, I haven't been under the car yet. Let me know if you find something. I will post my results also.

She told me its been doing it for a while on and off.
I'm a mechanic and never heard a noise like that coming from that area before... kinda weird.

Ever figure it out? Got same noise on start ups especially. More in reverse and once it warms. Goes away. Wood pecker metalic noise coming from transmission area

 

Any update on this? Ive started getting the same issue with the rattling by the “hump” inside.

 

Hey bro I sold that car long time ago. Transmission went bad soon there after. It's prob too late if your having same symptoms. But could be wrong too. Best thing is go do a drain and new fluid and filter ASAP.
