Well, policies vary from municipality to municipality, and obviously state to state. However, *generally* municipalities will not chase for "minor" traffic offenses, or at least won't continue to chase them significantly outside the municipal border. However, more significant offenses, including reckless driving or hit and run are a different story. Now, let's talk about the pursuit, there is a time-frame of "are they really running...what are they doing...is anyone close by...call the supervisor and see if they are in a good mood tonight, etc." that happens from the turn on the lights to turn them back off.
Also, don't assume that just because the lights go off, there is not the attempt to keep the car in sight until traffic thickens up...people get ahead, etc.
And on the subject, state agencies (i.e. CHP, GSP, etc) have the thing called sovereign immunity, which means they don't worry (as much) about being sued as local agencies. Translation: they are much more likely to initiate a chase, and continue to chase, as well as make physical contact during a chase. (Local agencies are more concerned about their 'repair budget.')
Motorcycles in Atlanta have learned that pulling over and stopping for State Trooper Chargers falls under the "discretion being the better part of valor" category.![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
The executive summary part: It varies from place to place and time to time, but I wouldn't suggest betting on it. Generally it is up to the individual agency to decide when, and how much to chase.
Cool video, though. Wish I could see it from the "other" side as well.

Red and blue strobes on the roof of a Crown Vic. The amber light in the grill used to be typical in VHS video systems, and it lit when the video was recording. It is supposed to come on when the trigger event starts, and in this case it appears to be triggered when the lights were turned on. I'd call it a real chase, if I had to guess.

yeah most likely a real chase but i doubt thats in cali..
not sure if we have a "no-chase" policy.
but when those sirens go on and you don't stop you better believe the chopper will be up in the air. at that point its pretty much over. no one outruns the helicopters here. goodluck outrunning a cop in LA with the traffic.

lol just watched one wow is all i can say. I would never do any of it. But i am so not stupid enough to tape it as well. I can't even imagine what my mom would say if she found out i got caught going 150+ and need bail money. I would rot in jail lol

but that was not to fast and only for like 15 seconds. I stopped doing all of that though because i like my license and the cops in va are worse then the ca ones ![mercy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/mecry.gif)

The cops must be real ****s in VA for them to be worse than the CA ones.
I get flooring it down an empty stretch of the highway to get a feel for the car, but I'll will never understand people who put others in danger and swerve in and out of traffic..

The video is interesting to watch, but those guys are total ****s.

few things i have learned always be honest no point in lying if you know the cop saw what you did. Second if night time turn on inside lights. Third be nice to the cop don't be all mad that you got pulled over does no one any good. You obviously did something wrong to get pulled over so suck it up and pay the price. I had a friend that ended up getting a second ticket because he yelled at the cop about how there was another guy going with him and he should have gotten the other guy too. I actually want to Finnish college and then become a police officer so i always mention that as well maybe that is what helps.
0 tickets in i would say about 90k miles in about 4 years with my license

Just a side point, but in my experience, the Z06's, AMGs, Porches etc, usually are the ones that you see one or two lanes over from the left, just enjoying the drive. Especially when traffic is heavier, they aren't trying to weave in and out of it. Now if the get a clear shot of light traffic they are gone, but that is a different mentality.
The ones that are cutting in and out of traffic and significantly standing out are the crappy POSs by far. The same things that would scare me to have a triple digits, 4 wheels, 4 different brand of tires, filthy, poorly maintained, etc.
I often think it is a more mature attitude that goes with the higher end cars.

Yeah, I've never understood the need to drive like a bat out of hell in traffic, or just "top end" speed. I much prefer the back road twisties.
That said, I have hit 160+ in Germany where it was legal, just to say I'd done it. Unfortunately, didn't last long, as traffic didn't allow it...
This is much more what I enjoy - spoiler warning, no plod involved.
