Upper control arm removal

Here's a quick question. Has any been able to remove the upper control arm (torque strut) without unbolting the shock to get it out of the way?

Also, is it generally recommended to replace both control arms at the same time?

No i dont think its possible without unbolting the strut. there's no way your going to be able to get the arm up and out without removing it.

Here:

Edit - presume you have play in the ball joint? You can replace the castor bush/bearing with the Torque Strut in place.

Yeah, bad ball joint and bushing. A woman ran me off the road last summer, into a curb. I had the alignment done after the accident, and the car was fine until a couple of months ago.

Is it recommended to replace both sides, or am I ok in just doing the drivers side upper control arm?

I would replace what needs replacing & leave it at that. As long as you can achieve stable wheel alignment settings. I would do both castor bushes however. Kerb side suspension always takes more of a pounding even if you don't go bashing it.
