I imagine the the pump is simply a flat surface where it mates with the hole, so there's no oil circulation there. Meanwhile the other (clear) hole looks like it's part of some channel where oil flows during engine operation. If this is the case, then it would be nothing to worry about. Mind you I don't know what the M111 pump looks like.

If it bothers you, just scoop out the gunk and call it a day.
