2003 c240 fuel injector removal problem....

Ok pulled my fuel rail today that was pretty easy took about an hour

now when i pulled it 3 out of the 6 injectors the lower seals came off

the seals are held in place by a little plastic disc

so 3 plastic discs fell inside my intake and are MIA i cannot find them i spent an hour looking in the fuel injector holes but could see nothing i made a hose for my shop vac and feed it in nothing!

changed the plugs and vacumed out the cylinders and nothing

so my question is are these 3 plastic disc things going to cause grief or will they just get crushed and burnt up

theres NO way i can pull the intake manifold no time

Are you referring to the o-rings labeled #35 in the picture below?

No not the rubber orings there are plastic rings that hold the orings on the plastic is actually brittle

as for going inside the HAD too no where else to go i pulled straight up and noticed 3 injectors had lost the orings and the plastic retainer ring the orings were in the intake injector holes and i pulled them out but the plastic rings were mia

follow this link Not the exact same injector but the white part is the same

Goodness, sorry to hear that. Perhaps a small suction tube through the injector ports might get them out? I don't think vacuuming the cylinder will help since it's probably caught in the valve. Other than that, you've got to get access to the intake manifold. Keep us posted and good luck.

Damn things - I am fairly confident that they will just be blown into the exhaust - But as there is a chance that one might get stuck & prevent a valve from closing & result in contact with a piston. I will not recommend you take that chance.

I'm afraid that the ball is in court on risk.

Do you have access to a boroscope?

Good luck.

HarborFreight sells digital inspection camera for around $120. it may be worth to buy this camera and use it to check for the missing part -

glyn that was my concern

the ones that came off broke very easy so im fairly sure that a valve closeing will crush/smash them

im in canada no harbour frieght for me same type of scope is $400.00ish here

I used a shop vac with a tube tape on it and tried to suck them up no luck I tried thru the spark plug holes too

im going to risk starting it injectors should be one wed moring ill install them and see what happens

trying to find maf cleaner as i have the maf off too but no luck yet

Why not turn by hand a few revolutions to make sure everything is free.

If there is a way to stop the engine from starting the next step could be just to run the starter motor a few revolutions.

Then start up.

Good luck, let us know how you go.

Large slow speed diesel engines are always turned slowly before starting in case of any fluid in the combustion area.

Good advice John. With the configuration of the M112 they are probably lying on the back of the inlet valve waiting to drop into the combustion chamber when the respective valve opens.

If you pull fuses 48,53,54 the engine won't start IIRC. Trouble is that 53 also cuts the starter relay so will have to be reinserted to enable crank.

If you pull fuses 32,52,57 the engine won't crank. Starter motor inhibited.

As you would require at least 6 of the 12 plugs removed to turn over by hand easily you may as well crank it with plugs out. Give the stupid bits of plastic another route out of the engine.

well got the injectors back and installed this am

I had also changed the spark plugs and removed and cleaned the MAF

turned the key to run the fuel pump several times then depressed the valve to got the air out of the fuel rail did this a few times

then started it...well tried too it cranked and cranked started ran really really badly so I turned it off rechecked everything all was well so i tried to start it again NO luck

tried again and it started fine ran really rough and i got a CEL I let it run for 5 mins and it smoothed out started it again all was well still have a CEL

I left it till I get my scanner hopefully in the morning I dont want to drive it till I find out what the cel is

so those 3 plastic peices caused no problems so far.......
