Hi all,
Three weeks ago I purchased a 2007 C280 with 85K miles for my son. I’m in the process of sorting it out and doing maintenance to things that I can’t prove were done or are coming due. Yesterday he and I changed the spark plugs with relative ease. I’m no stranger to working on cars, but this is the first time I’ve done a spark plug change on a Mercedes coil on plug motor. I was surprised by how the coil packs went back in. I was expecting to feel it seat on the top of the spark plug, but never really felt that occur as I pressed the coil packs back into place. It just kind of mushed into place and then stopped as it pressed up against the coil pack mount. They all seated fine and lined up with the mounting holes, but it just never felt like they “locked” on top of the plug.
Everything seems fine now. The car starts fine, runs fine and there are no codes or warnings on the dash, so I think we’re ok. However this morning I’ve read a couple posts about the M271 engine and the need to “extend” the “telescoping” coil packs before re-inserting them. I understand that’s not the engine I have, but am now wondering if I possibly missed a step.
Before I run out to the garage and pull a coil to see if it “extends,” I figured I ask for some experienced opinions here.
