Ash Tray Removal

Anyone know how to remove the ashtray assembly? I have the cigiraette lighter stuck behind the door in the corner. I tried everything. When the door is open there is no enough clearance to remove it

Could you clarify what you mean by "ashtray assembly"?

The ashtray insert is just removed by pushing forward on the indent on the right-hand side. That should give you enough room to remove the ciggy lighter.

Also, pull up on the center console piece that goes around the shifter, and turn it 90 degrees once it's loose; that will give you some further wiggle room.

Removing the ashtray assembly wont help you because it comes out fully (with the door) and the entire unit and the insert...so if you cant open the door now, you cant open it even when you remove the ashtray assembly.

That's not completely accurate, I don't think. When my designo trim was installed, I got a new door; I didn't do it myself, but when the trim was replaced, the new door was put in. I believe that it was just removed/reinstalled with brute force. I was going to look at things when I went out to lunch, but forgot to. I'll have a look after work, since we actually have daylight past 5:01 these days.

Ive removed and installed the ashtray a bunch of times and its always been the entire unit (ashtray + door + insert) coming out as one unit. The ashtray door can be opened even when the entire unit has been uninstalled.

I'm sure there is a way to separate the door from the rest of the ashtray, but all I'm saying is removing the entire unit from the car isn't going to separate the door and the OP still wont be able to get the thing thats stuck inside out.

I say just get another ciggy lighter, get it hot, and burn a hole through the back of the ashtray for the original lighter to drop through.

well its the cigarette lighter that is stuck behind the door. I am able to open it slightly.. but when its open slightly theres no clearance to pul it out. But if i took out the whole assembly and shook it or even tilted it forward it would come out from behind the door.

Hard to say really...maybe tilting the ashtray upside down might make a difference and the cig lighter might move about enough to allow you to open the door. Only way to find out for sure is to try it out...shouldnt take too long. The trim is fairly easy to remove.
But removing the ashtray doesnt mean that the door is going to come away seperately.

Could you post a picture?

Maybe that would clarify things for everyone there.

If I understand this correctly, you will have to remove part of the center trimming that is around your shifter.
