Parking brake pedal?

Am I imagining things, or did my normally operating parking brake used to make a slight ratcheting sound when I pressed down on it? I've had problems as of late where the parking brake doesn't dis-engage all the way - I have to press down on the parking brake and then release a few times to get the brake light to go off. And now this (unless I'm imagining the ratcheting)?

Oh, and to add to the list the passenger side pull handle broke this week too...

Yup it makes a ratcheting sound when you engage it. Check to see maybe you just have to tighten it. (its under the rear seats) or the parking brake mechanism is messed up. Ive seen that happen on here as well.

As for the passenger side pull handle that is also common. Mine broke off as well but I im pretty good with a soldering iron so I plastic welded it and its been a few months that way. Stronger than oem lol

Greg - lubricate everything - especially the mechanism under the back seat. It gets all seized up.

Had the same problem on mine. I had to slightly pull it up to disengage. I just don't use my park brake anymore.

Thanks guys!!! And thanks for posting the drawing Glyn! Work is kicking my a$$ this week and I'm on the East coast next week so I'm hoping everything will hold together until I get back. There are enough hills/inclines in this town (including my driveway) that I use the parking brake every day. I'm kind of **** about letting the weight of the car rest on the transmission pin.

I have the same issue but mine has more to do with the brake switich sensitivity, is there a way that the brake switich can be adjusted so it is not that sensitive. I pull the handle the brake disengages but the brake light does not go off.........any insight..........

i had the same issue. I just retightened the mechanism underneath the seat to take up some slop and that made the pedal retract to the correct position and the light went away

i think you probably just need to tighten the parking brake. this is typical for parking brakes on any car. every time you use it, you stretch the cables to tighten it and when you release, they go back to about 99.99% of their original position. so over time, they eventually loosen up and you just need to tighten it.
