anyone try FIRESTONE WIDE OVAL INDY 500 tire????

I think the UHP crowd has low expectations.
General Exclaims used to be the top tire.
They are crap!
But it depends how you drive.
I mostly have had "Max performance" tires, which stick better and ride
better generally, but don't last.
I was changing tires more often the oil!
I wanted longer tread life AND a low price so I looked around and saw these
Indy Firestones. I nearly got RE760's for about the same price after rebate but these
were a lot less expensive and some people are saying they get 30K-60K miles on a set!
Rebate is gone now.
My impressions so far.
If you are not a wild driver, and don't expect "max" or "extreme"
performance, I guess they are OK.
I am waiting to see if I can get more miles out of them before
I rate them.
On the Plus side.
1. Quiet
2. Little to no trammelling.
3. Treadwear? Claimed to be high
4, Tracks well in straight line and mild corners.
5. Good in the rain.
Down side
1. Sketchy in corners, requires constant correction, doesn't inspire
at the limit driving, you'd wreck! Other tires I've had were just point and
it went with my CO's and thick bars. (2 grand in suspension upgrades)
Now it's work on backroads, I just have to drive much slower.
Which in turn will hopefully extend the tire wear.
2. Car feels like it's oversteering (more than usual)
Plows into hard corners! (where other tires did not, but yes,
General Exclaims did)
Could likely be cured by lowering front tire pressure,
but then I lose treadwear.
3. Hard as rocks when cold, pretty hard tire anyway.
Harsh ride honestly.
gets flats spots when sitting on cold pavement for a few hours,
but clears up quickly.
Basically if you looking for decent passenger tire and don't need to drive like a maniac
( oh you shoulda seen me with Brigdestone A050 PP's, no one would ever guess you could do what I've
done in a C Coupe, but those cost $700-800 and last no more than 10K miles )
it's OK. If they don't last > 20K miles, I'd have to say they are crap.
I've had good results with Fuzions ZRi also made by BS/FS
but they only last about 10K miles. They are hard but stick like crazy compared to these
and around the same price.
If you go with them try pricing them online at firestone,
I did and it was cheaper than TR + install.
I was out the door for under $500.
And I get free rotations.
Sumitomo HTIII REALLY sticks like mad also cheap,
but only 5K miles on the rear!!!!
So basically, to me they suck, but so far I can't find a
tires that will last 20K-30K with really good performance.
A longer lasting tire is a harder tire, and you just don't
get the traction in corners.
Money is tight so longer wear is my priority these days, which
is stupid considering I spent 2 grand on suspension only to
put steel wheel roller skates on it. But it what it is till
the money starts comin' in again.
I feel good about buying american vs. some made in China crap,
ha these replaced some Federal 595's which were good wear,
tracking & traction, but HOWL like you're diff is gonna blow.
And I only had 2!
