mine went out today.hose came off and lost all coolant until .. it was a challenge finding what it was called.. replace this.. btw its a pain to find

 

haha, i broke mine too. I was working on da car one day and had my elbow on it. heard a SNAP! and there it went .. FML.

just go to the dealer as it is a specific part and doubt that anyone else has this part, it is cheap anyways and not worth the hastle to scope out an alternate part

 

Wish I had seen this sooner! This thing just snapped on me this morning when I was changing the spark plugs. I'm at 78k miles. Looks exactly like it does in the first picture of the OP.

Can I drive around with the hose plugged and disconnected while I wait for the new part or does this need to be reconnected immediately somehow? If I go to the dealer will they have it on hand or will I have to wait on it?

 

Every dealer is different, so call in. To answer your 1st question, just remember that coolant leaks out if the engine is hot. So if you live close by (ie less than 10 minutes), you can probably get away with it. Be sure to grab a jug of coolant at the dealer too if this is the case.

 

For the next person this happens to that sees this, I have an extra one of these, as pictured in the original post, that I'd gladly sell and ship to someone. Just let me know.

It is $6.94 at the dealer, why pay more?

 

When I had my drive belt changed a couple of months ago, this part broke on my car and they replaced it for free.

 

It's a maintenance item only if you're careless working around it.

 

don't necessarily agree, the plastic does not age well because it is above the exhaust manifold and over time it become very brittle

 

I wonder if we could come up with a list of parts like this that we ought to keep around (like the $9 hose)?

I'm starting a list and so far I have this part and this part number:
A203-018-12-8 (but I don't remember what it is - anybody know?).

Can we come up with more?

 

I was at a friend's shop getting my fuel filter changed...dropped a small flashlight (size of a roll of Mentos) and this piece broke right off. Out of 5 parts departments in the area, only the one 45 miles away had this part in stock (and 1 left). I am definitely ordering 2 more to keep in the glovebox.

 

I can't believe I just read this thread... and pop, I snapped my connector off by accident!! I was on the last sparkplug swapout, and I leaned on the coolant line, and snap goes the weasel! UGGHH... so I guess I'll be hitting the stealership tomorrow!

(I've plugged off the line on both ends... hopefully they will last me a trip to the dealer).

This actually HAPPENED to me about 3 months ago

I was cleaning my engine bay, barely bumped into the plastic part and it snapped off. I turned my engine on and was shooting coolant across the autozone parking lot lol

With some crazy glue and a small hose clamp I was able to make it home but had to go to the MB dealer for the part, I think they charged me 9$


I think its stupid how thin and brittle the connector piece and the whole tubing is right there

Teamredline put some threaded steel over it, It looks pretty nice!

 

Did it today while is was replacing the valve cover gasket. It broke as I was removing the hose clamp. Looks like it was time. 150,000 miles.

 

do it need to be bleed after changing it?
