Mine just broke, didn't cost me anything as the tow was free through MB Roadside Assistance. The thing that irritates me most is I had planned on having this done 2 weeks ago when I had my timing chain replaced at the dealership. I had read this thread months ago and yes, it's a PIA and it will strand you! I'm sure it gets brittle but the timing of just having the chain done a week ago leads me to believe it may have been cracked by carelessness. Who knows, just heed the warnings, yo.

How much did they charge you for timing chain? I've been quoted 1200, and it's not at the dealer...

I negotiated $1,000 with the local dealer here. Seemed very reasonable.

Pretty reasonable! I may ask my dealer for a quote then...

Back to the topic: at 126k miles, my connector seems sturdy (although I've bought a new one to keep in the glovebox)

Yeah, that is why I don't know if it gets broken or it is just a weak part. If I were you I'd have it done or install it yourself. It's messy and a real PIA if it happens.

Red face

This just happened to me during a spark plug change.
I got careless and it snapped of at the coolant return tank.
I plugged up both holes as the one on the top hose broke while evaluating it!

On my way to the dealership Monday Morning.
Happy Easter!

Just as I said this item becomes very brittle and needs to be changed every couple of years or it will just snap off

Just bringing this tip forward for those that have not replaced the part because by now it will be very brittle and just hanging on

A very cheap but necessary repair, don't want to get caught out on the road when this happens

That's funny. I read this thread yesterday and immediately called the dealers around. Picked one up for $10.50. Not too bad. I was going to update the thread today, but you beat me to it. Haha.

2005 C230 Kompressor
Greetings all,

I see a lot of people talking about this little plastic connector piece, but I am looking for the rubber hose that this piece connects to. I can't find a part number for this rubber hose or the clamps anywhere. Will someone tell me where I can find this (seemingly) basic rubber hose and the 2 clamps?

Thanks for the help!!

BMonee

PS, No, I am not looking for the feeder to the cylinder heads #A271-200-11-52

The Fix
Replace the connector with a new one about a 5 minute job that even the most non handy person can do. Part number 003-997-06-89 (In Canada the price is $7.60, probably in the US it is $3)
1. release the hose clamp on the rubber hose with a set of pliers
2. lift up the wire fastener
3. pull out the connector
4. push in the new connector
5. push down the wire fastener (making sure both it and the plastic part are seated)
6. re-attach the rubber hose and affix the hose clamp

Pictures show the location of the connector, a broken connector and a new one
Changed my headlight assembly this weekend and I guess I bumped this valve. ALL my coolant spilled out and I had no idea why.

So thankful for third post; already ordered the part and will change out asap.

By the way, what is involved with lifting wire fastener? Does the wire keep from hose coming out? If part of the valve is broken inside the tube, guess I need to dig it out with pliers??

Also dug out some of the superglue and silicon used to temporarily hold in place. lol. As an FYI, The retainer pin just lifts up. It is hard to explain but is really obvious once you see it.

Really happy I can drive now and not worry about coolant exploding!!

DO YOU KNOW THE DIAMETER SIZE of THE HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO THIS ADAPTER?

While I didn’t place an actual order...it seems the hose and adapter are available all over the place...

the hose itself is not an actual part which is why I am asking for the diameter of the hose?

If you’re looking for the hose diameter, I’m assuming you want I.D.

If you’re looking for the metal tube O.D. I’m sure one of us can help you sooner that later...

But if your looking for hose, a wrecker or eBay might be your best bet there, as most of ours will be full of coolant.

Searching Google

yielded this on Amazon...

Amazon Amazon

thanks for the reply. I know where I can get the entire part. However most people don’t break the metal- they break off the adapter which is max $12. However the hose(tube) that connects the adapter on one side and metal on other has a specific diameter which is not even listed on MB and they don’t sell it. It can be purchased at any any auto parts store. Less than a foot for $2. I thought someone would know the diameter size of the tube instead of me having to plug and play to see which diameter fits.
