SmartKey not function

Oh! ****! 1 of my SmartKey not function, cannot lock/unlock the car, can't even start the car!!!!

i had the same problem.. and it was the key that i didn't use... it worked at the dealership when i took delivery of the car.. and after 2 months it wouldn't do anything. The little red light worked ..so it wasn't abattery problem. I took it to the dealer and got a new set of keys... haven't had a problem since... hmmm..maybe i should check my spare key now to see if after 3 months of sitting on my desk if it still works.....

I have both of my keys replaced already. They told me many of the new C class owners have the same problems.

There is a previous post that tells what numbers to look for on your key. So you know what batch your key comes from.

I have had one replaced with the new style and have one old one.

Got it, i found the post, both of my keys are not 221. hope the other one can last until my new key arrive..

This morning is the second time I brought my car to the service dept regarding smart keys could not unlock/lock/start the car in the past seven days (smart keys work occasionaly). Last week, they had my two smart keys replaced and gave me the new ones start with 221.
This afternoon the service advisor told me that they replaced the "Sam Control Module" in the left side trunk compartment and even replaced the left side trunk interior liner too. I have no idea what that is anyway. In addition he told me that they ordered two new samrt keys for me again. The two they gave me a week ago were not the updated one. He told me that the differences between the updated one and the old one could not been tell from the outside. (It means even smart keys start with 221 may not be the updated one, at least in my case it was not). There is a special number inside (have to take out the battery) to identify the updated one. Next week when I pick up the new keys, I will ask him more.
So I urge all the current owners should check their spare keys too.
