Have you tried bargaining with them? That $250/year tag is way too much for a service you probably use once a year. AAA + cell phone + Comand GPS is good enough for me.

I disagree with oggle....
My insurance gives me a $340 credit for keeping TeleAid active. In the event the car is stolen, MB can locate the car, shut it down, contact authorities and recover it. If you're in an accident, and the airbags deploy, they call YOU and a local 911 for any necessary help you might need.
With that said, I also use it...the concierge service is great...and impressive...
I've made service appointments, changed hotel reservations, and verified location/directions with it. Sure, the MB employees often try to keep you on the system longer than they should, but if you tell them you dont want to eat up your "free time"...they respond quickly.

I was told by the salesman that even if I choose not to continue with the TeleAid after the first year, they would still call the car and police if the airbags were to deploy....is this not true?

I don't think so. If it were true, there would be a lot less incentive for the customer to continue to pay for the service. If my car had Teleaid, that would be only feature I would care about.

If you have one of the newer cell phones with E911 then all you would have to do is call 911 in an accident and they'll have your exact location. Teleaid says that you may be unconcious but realistically if you live in populated area then odds are there will be one concious person with a cell phone either in one of the vehicles in the accident or nearby. Teleaid would have been a great idea 10 years ago when very few had cell phones but with 80+ million cell phones in the U.S. it's not as useful. If you are in a very sparse rural area then chances are the analog cell phone in Teleaid will not get reception anyway. Also I've heard that AT&T is phasing out their analog service in favor of GSM so my guess is they are not improving or expanding their analog service making Teleaid even less useful and archaic.

Typical MB thought, when the world goes to CD's, MB goes cassette, when the world goes XM, MB goes Sirius, when the world is using digital cell phones, MB goes analog for Teleaid.

Goto your salesman and make him put that down in writing. Those dishonest ***** will say anything to get a sale.

I have never used my tele-aid. If I am lost, I use my comand. If I need to call mercedes, I have my cell phone. The re-newal fee goes to "mod-fund"

NJ Manufacturers and Liberty Mutual both offer discounts for anti-theft/vehicle tracking(just like OnStar or LoJack). It's my impression that they wont just ask....you have to more or less demand the discount.
Insurance as an industry is a rip off. The only lower life form is the politician that takes the payoffs from insurance companies to make their product mandatory thus providing for the success of those companies.....and their own off-shore, tax free bank accounts. (We get a lot of that in NJ)

Where did you see that changing to Netherlands setting will disable Teleaid? I have not heard that.
