Please help! Troublesome C200K.....
Obviously Im new to the forum, and from Australia.

Im hoping someone can help me out with some thioughts. I have a 2001 C200 kompressor, with a touch over 200,000kms on the clock now. Its been a magnificent car, however now it has an issue that seems to have everyone baffled.
The MB dealer/garage is of the opinion that the SP Control module is gone, other places have said that many of the sensors are gone. Im quite lost, and not in a position where I want to throw too much more money at the car, as I wish to trade it for a newer Merc (and one with warranty) in about another 6 months.
The symptoms are as follows; Start engine, select gear, ABS fault, BAS, ESP, Display faulty (an d acouple of others). But the moment the "display faulty" comes up, the car goes into limp home mode and locks itself pretty much in whatever gear it is in at the time - usually first - which is very frustrating.
MB suggest that replacing the SP control module *should* sort this out. A new one is evidently about 7,000. Ive started sniffing around for a 2nd hand one maybe, but there appears to be no after market ones.
Sometimes however, none of the faults come up and the car drives perfectly, Id say about 1 in every 8 times I start the car I may be lucky and have no issues.
Does this sound very familiar to anyone, and can anyone suggest what i should do? Ideally id like to upgrade now, but due to a couple of circumstances, I will be unable to for another few months. Im also reluctant at just "dumping" the car, as Ive only not long fins8ihed paying for the thing.
Any advice or suggestions would be warmly received.
Like I said, once the "dispaly faulty" one shows up, its curtains. You lose the speedo, and then it locks itself in whatever gear at the time.
Again, any help apppreciated.
If your near Brissy your welcome to come over and i can hook up my diagnostics software to have a look. It saved my **** of $1300 from a MB stealership. The kit I have will diagnose as well (maybe even better) than dealership gear and I'd love to try it on another car.

it's difficult to get a reading.
Once, after my car was parked in the rain during a bad storm, the dash was dead, the headlights went on by themselves, and the thing was in limp mode.
When my indy guy hooked up the das, he was having trouble, since the display was screwing up the whole buss.
Once it was parked in the shop for a few days, it fixed itself! Hasn't happened again, so I'm assuming it was moisture.
So if your display is screwed up, you'd have to get another one, and program it for your mileage with DAS.
I can tell you before my car went completely dead I had a wheel sensor go out, that
was affecting the acceleration and throwing an error code.
Once the thing went completely dead, it was impossible to read the code for the wheel sensor, without 1st repairing the display issue.
Lucky for me it fixed itself. Once the display started working it was possible to read the rest of the codes.
What's an SP module?
