New idea, lab sample, Refrigerant/ Oil

Hello.

Check this out.

Auto zone rents a vacuum out for free.

How about getting a sample of the R134 in the system, and then sending it to the lab to check for the percentage of oil in the mixture?

Thoughts?

Where is the oil located in the mixture.,

1) Evenly throughout?

Or,

2) Somewhere in the compressor?

The refrigerant & the oil partially co-mingle in an A/C compressor & separate once pressure is released. How are you going to take a representative sample & what is it going to tell you?

If it seperates when the pressure is released, then I could simply take a sample with a vacuum when the pressure is released.

Oh I see the problem.

I would then have to get the percentage of oil to R134 in the mixture, and use the weight of the R134 to give me the exact weight of the oil.

However, I don't know the weight of the R134, because there is probably a slow leak.

Darn.

Now, if I vacuum it ALL out, I can certainly test it for oil right?

Also, will it all seperate, allowing me to filter out the oil and measure it?
