fuel test until it hits E
Ok, today I filled up my baby Benz, C200 Kompressor for the very first time. I used 98 RON fuel.
The car says its just over 750km until Empty.
Anyone want to guess the actual KMs? I've set my car odometer to zero.
Factors to include, I'm a fuel conserving driver who has the car in comfort mode most of the time. Lots of start-stop traffic to the office, driving around 1 hour each way daily.
I'll post the resaults

Don't run the car empty. You could suck accumulated crap from the bottom of the tank into the fuel system. Happened to a neighbour last week in a low mileage W203.

I get better fuel economy in sport mode. This is especially true if you like to take your foot off the gas and coast to the stop signs (in comfort mode the tranny will try to stay locked to the wheels and slow you down). YMMV Oh, and 550km

I'm going to guess 600km since you have a C200.
Kind of a dumb habit, but what I've been doing in the last few years is resetting the tip odometer every time I fill up, and seeing how much mileage I can get per tank, then trying to see if varying any parameters (for example using 87 instead of 91, or changing tire pressures) makes a difference on fuel economy.
That's how I also know that using 87, while not exactly healthy for the engine, also doesn't seem to kill off much mileage if you are light on the gas.
I can get 560km consistently (driving like a granny) in the city per tank. At this point the car is down to 1/32 or so. Once I got 640km, but that was literally a one-off. Not sure what I did differently that time. Unless someone else in the family put $5 of gas inside without telling me.
The only real secret to getting good mileage is a) using minimal throttle, and b) avoid as much brake use as possible since you're basically just throwing away momentum.
One time I was stupid and ran my tank dry. That was a fun day. Fortunately I had a really good friend bail me out.. at 1am, on a Monday, in the middle of a windy snowstorm where entire trees were toppling over.
The moral of the story:
1) The mileage clock is off (every time the tank is completely full, it says 721km) and should not be trusted.
2) When needle points to 0, it means 0. In other words, when the yellow fuel light turns on after your car drops just below 1/8, you're running on the 6L "reserve" tank.
**update**
Looks like you posted 1h before I wrote this. I didn't see your answer before writing this though. Haha.

Thanks for the story Slammer. I've never run out of fuel but good to know the if it hits 0 it is 0. My GM (before the Merc) I had running for about 15 mins on 0 once.
I'll be sure to fill up my C200 tonight.
Interesting instrument layout. My speedo/rev meters are different then yours. Perhaps a facelift update?
