Mine continues to be the most reliable car I've ever owned.
2 X Castor bushes under warranty - (known problem), one 5 cent tranny plug crush washer, RHS rear stop lamp bulb. That's it!
Why so many corrosion related problems? I'll bet she's broken a spring due to corrosion.

For W203 SA had the RHD build.
For W204 SA switched to supplying USA until 2014/15 when build goes to Tuscaloosa & SA picks up slack for China & Vietnam plants..
US W203's came from Sindelfingen, Bremen & Brazil.
SA built cars give a fraction of the trouble experienced in the US. There is a reason for this. When Benz realised that their computer simulated reliability testing had let them down they immediately reverted to on road testing in SA & Namibia. SA put learnings into production immediately. Things like SA leather have always been superior. Many W203 failings were given to SA to resolve.

The OP got a bad one, plain and simple - it could happen to any of them of any year.
