headers basically improve the breathing ability of the engine. on a naturally aspirated engine, the design is extremely important, not so much so on a forced induction engine except in this application usually the bigger the better for the most part. an engine is basically an air pump the easier it is to get air in and out the less hp is used to push the air, also know as pumping loss. hope this helps.
