What's this sticker on my windshield???

Ok so when I bought my car it had this white sticker on the windshield on the bottom passenger side of the window. What is this about? Do all benz's come with this and then people remove it? I have not seen other people with it is why I'm asking. It has a signature on it and a Benz emblem so I know it's authentic. I would just like to know what it is and what it stands for. Thanks.

did you buy your car new or used? if it's used, could just be some sticker from where the guy before you took it to service. but if it was that, it should say some stuff on it like miles to next service or something...

It's normal. Comes factory like that. Diamler Benz and a signature right? New ones look a little different.

When you purchase an AMG vehicle from a Mercedes Dealership, you automatically become a member of The AMG Private Lounge. They send freebies through the mail all the time and the last freebie was the AMG sticker which goes on the bottom part of your windshield. The previous owner was probably a member. Is the sticker white with silver?

Yeah, I got it too. The Daimler signature makes me cringe every time I look at it. I also hate seeing the Daimler-Benz sticker under the hood too. Feels like I am under the hood of a Chrysler. I would buy a Crossfire if I wanted that.

A little side story. Back in the day I worked as a pressman for a commercial print shop where we did a lot of high end jobs. We did a bunch of inter-company brochures announcing the marriage of Daimler & MB. They flew an MB representative from Germany to proof the first sheets off my press. I had no idea the damage that would be done to MB due to that union.

I would be taken aback at a "Daimler-Chrysler" sticker anywhere on a Mercedes-Benz. But "Daimler-Benz" predates the merger by several decades and is a legitimate brand identifier. You guys might want to read some Mercedes-Benz history...

The sticker referred to is a standard item on all MBs. They cost $3 at the dealer if you need to replace one due to a windshield replacement. And you WILL want to keep the sticker right where it is. don't remove it.

Mine had it until windshield replacement. I tried to peel it off and restick it on the new one, but it didn't come off cleanly. I don't really miss it, but from what MB Bob is saying, I probably should go get the $3 replacement sticker.

To clarify, I am referring to the dealings with Chrysler that I do not care for.
This is what I'm talking about under the hood...

Please share with us the significance of having the sticker in the lower right of the wind screen.

It makes Bob feel "special".

I have no idea why you would "need" to have it there. I really hated it, so I replaced mine with the newer, less obnoxious clear signature version. It's a hell of a lot better.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
I had to check the date.
Haven't seen Bob in these parts since like 2003.
What are you driving these days Bob?
It hit me the other day, that in Jan of 2012 I will have had my car for 10 years.
Still running strong at 169690 miles as of this morning.
Though I will need a head gasket at some point due to the classic right rear corner coolant leak from the side.

My windsheild was smashed by some bums in Santa Cruz, and replaced.
Forgot about that sticker.

So I figured I would take his advice and get me an udumacation on the name Daimler. Here's a brief synopsis of what I found...

Gottlieb Daimler March 17, 1834 – March 6, 1900) was a pioneer of internal-combustion engines and automobile development. He invented the first high-speed petrol engine and the first four-wheel automobile.

In 1890, Gottlieb Daimler and his lifelong business partner Wilhelm Maybach founded Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG). They sold their first automobile in 1892. Daimler fell ill and took a break from the company. Upon his return he experienced difficulty with the other stockholders that led to his resignation in 1893. This was reversed in 1894. Maybach resigned at the same time, and also returned. In 1900 Daimler died and Wilhelm Maybach quit DMG in 1907. In 1924, the DMG management signed a long term co-operation agreement with Karl Benz's Benz & Cie., and in 1926 the two companies merged to become Daimler-Benz AG, which is now part of Daimler AG

Daimler-Benz AG was a German manufacturer of automobiles, motor vehicles, and internal combustion engines; founded in 1926. An Agreement of Mutual Interest - which was valid until year 2000 - was signed on 1 May 1924 between Karl Benz's Benz & Cie., and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, which had been founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Daimler had died in 1900, and Maybach had left in 1907.

In 1998, Daimler-Benz AG bought the American automobile manufacturer Chrysler Corporation, and formed DaimlerChrysler AG. When the Chrysler Group was subsequently sold off to Cerberus Capital Management and renamed Chrysler LLC in August 2007, the name of the parent company was changed to simply Daimler AG within two months.

Wow good stuff guys! I had no idea that sticker had so much story behind it. I think I might go and get a newer more updated version of the sticker. I just don't like that white one. I think I might like the clear one. Would anyone be able to post up a pic of the clear one so I can see what it looks like before I buy it? It's not just buying it but the MB stealer is over an hour from my house. Thanks in advance.

There is a thread with pictures of several variations HERE, but no clear ones. The others are interesting to see how they changed, though - and part numbers. I will see if I can snap a picture of one of the clear ones, I just have to find one parked, or go by the dealer, so it may take a day or two.

I know! It is definitely a hike. I will see if I could find some. I have another question, my A service is due in a few thousand miles and I was wondering do I have to go to MB to get this done or can an independent perform this? If I had to go to MB I was gonna pick up the sticker then.

If you have an indie shop nearby that regularly works on MB's then they could do it. Your owners manual has a list of the services preformed for both A & B services.
Also, if your dealership is like mine you better call ahead so they can order one. It seems they rarely have the stuff I need. They alway have to order things.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
The white windshield sticker used to be a stylized signature G Daimler, paying homage to the founder and the very German habit of craftsmen signing their work. With the addition of other marques like Smart and Maybach there was a desire to keep the Mercedes-Benz car line seperate from the other brands, so now the homage sticker simply says "Mercedes." There was also a desire to stem confusion with a UK marque called Daimler Motor Company. Gottlieb Daimler sold the rights in 1896 to his name for cars made in the UK. At the time exporting machinery was difficult, so manufacturers sold designs and rights in foreign countries. The UK Daimler is owned by Jaguar, which is now part of India's Tata Motors. You gotta love Tatas!

AMG cars have engines assembled by a single worker, and a signature plate is usually affixed atop the motor.

This is more or less what the new stickers look like. This was from an E class.
