c32 intake on 06 m272 any thoughts?

Hi folks,

Was looking into getting a c32 inake that's in the classifieds to mount on to my c230 m272. Been searching the forums the most i could find were folks thinking of just utilizing the intake tubes. Wondering if the c32 boxes were actually larger than the m272 air boxes which would provide a bit more air volume into the whole setup.

Any thoughts on pros or cons to the setup.

thanks for any advice.

Also any idea if it would mate up on the stock tb on the m272. i found a post by frank that a spacer may need to be made or sourced from kleeman but i thought Frank had an amg model. Tried finding the thread once more but couldn't seem to find it.

thanks again for any advice

Look for the SL55 airbox instead. The C32 guys upgrade to them and also the 500 guys use them and gains have been seen.

ok. i was looking in the other forums and it seems like that was the route c32 owners were doing. i was figuring for a 100 bucks couldn't hurt? no? just wasn't sure if it would be worth it.

now should i assume that the c32 and sl55 use a 74 mm throttle body. or does the sl55 use a 80mm does anyone know if it would mate up on the m272.

granted i'm not expecting crazy gains it is a c240

just thought about it due to what i saw in the classifieds if it's not worth it i'll pass and save my money

thanks again

A cheaper alternative that gains have been felt would be the cone filter mod. It should be somewhere in Phister's thread. Phister is putting a hood scoop too.

Here is a picture of it. (360 air sucking)

yeah i saw that one as well. seemed like a very interesting mod. i also found the one about routing a tube to where the battery is and have one of the inlet route air to where the battery is located.

i was debating about doing the setup with the cone filter. but would prefer keeping it looking semi stock. cost effectiveness wise may not be a bad idea.

i thought that someone may have a setup with either a cone or panel filter right up to the front inlets feeding air into the throttle body. I saw a similar setup back in the day for the dtm m3's back in 94. the L98 corvettes had a setup similar to that where they had mounted a panel filter on top of the radiator that fed air into a tube to the throttle body. around the time when they started doing ram air for the l98's in most catalogues.

hmm now i can't decide been reading more into it and am thinking it may be more of a cosmetic upgrade if i were to go with the c32 boxes.

Ya man, dont waste your money on the C32 airbox and also don't shave your baffles in the airbox. I did it to mine and nothing. I personally haven't done this cone filter mod but couple of people did and they really feel a difference.

On my car when I was getting it dyno tuned we figured out that the car is starving air up top. I have the K&N filters and It didn't really help the problem. We later found out that the manifold is restrictive. The manifold on the special edition SLK350 that has higher HP has a single runner and a ex member upgraded to that and the 82mm tb and said he felt huge gains. I'm not even bothering with the cone filter until I go with the manifold and TB. I have the manifold already but keeping an eye out for the TB. The AMG guys upgrade to them so it's a hot item.

Honest opinion, don't waste your money on the C32 airbox.

thanks Karo. that was the answer i was actually looking for straight forward and with alternative options

hmm very interested in that manifold upgrade. Reminds me of the days of modding my 94 325 with the individual throttle body setup on the m50's lol.

pm inbound.

about to buy my manifold with my 100 coupon hehe If i can't find the 550 tb I might just rent one and swap it or ask my friend who works at a MB used dealership if he can source me one or just get an adapter plate milled. Doing my measurements on my hood scoops this week and building the boxes. I'm going to get the AEM dry filters for new filters so I dont have to worry about reoiling them.

Man! i totally missed out on those coupons. i tried it this past weekend and nothing happened.

made the mistake of going to the dealer to buy a cabin filter thinking it was $32. He told me $65 i countered why so expensive parts counter sold it for 50 out the door, lol. Not bad but still too much last time i go to the dealer for parts lol.

replied to your question about the ECU in the eurocharged thread... but if you look at the pic karo posted its the finned thing in the middle of the engine cover. Just remove the cover and the ecu is held on by 4 screws. To remove the harness, he connectors have pieces that hold it in place by sliding it, so just slide the connector holder and then you can remove the harness.

thanks phister.

i ended up going throught the whole thread and just found how to take off the ecu. but since talking to Karo not sure if i want to hold off on the ecu tune and get the parts for the intake mod. since Oe tuning will be doing the tuning for the setup. or just send it in since Jerry is giving me a great deal for the tune

decisions decisions.

well with the mod, its going to be very very hard to find a 550 tb, Cale the guy who did the mod got his from a guy from Saudi Arabia! think it cost him like 450 or something like that. Plus Jeremy from OE is still working on the A/F with the mod since its running so rich now due to the amount of air coming in and every now and then a CEL comes on when he goes WOT. You can always ship the ecu back once you do the mod. thats what I plan on doing or drive down to the shop since my sister lives there in Houston.

You and your sucking. ;)

There is little restriction in most naturally aspirated MB air filtration systems.
I'd suggest one avoid ingesting heated underhood air since each ~10°(Fahrenheit) increase above ambient reduces output by about 1%.

Retrofitting upgraded OE hardware (e.g., SL55 airboxes on a C32) is an oft-proven modification on some W203s.
Never mind its ODPS 18-psi supercharger.

but will probably do the manifold route. never know maybe in the future both mods would be done. If finances permit.

Also I tried to draw a picture about the cat to explain why we had to cut the cat. Here it goes. I suck at art by the way.

The downpipe that connect to the cat attaches to the right of the cat not center. Since the headers are tabular (curved) the downpipe for the header joins the cat right in the middle.

Since the cat opening is on the right side the opening needs to be cut and turned into middle.

Don't laugh at my pic. I know it may seem like something else to the untrained eye but it's a picture of a cat I promise. The red is the added part (pipe).

been researching on the parts for this mod. Wow mucho dinero. but seems like a worthwhile mod. Hopefully i will see sufficient gains on my 240.

thanks everyone for the info.

Now the search begins for these parts.

On a side note would the e55 airbox setup work.
