Canadian C230, SLK230 Owners with M111, M271 Cam Solenoid Oil Problems
I'm looking to get MB Canada to adknowledge the service campaign on the camshaft solenoids leaking oil into the harness and I would like to get an idea of how many of us are out there.
I've already contacted MB Canada and got their standard answer, but they have failed to account for the fact that I have extensive experience consulting with Transport Canada on safety and compliance issues as well as vehicle importation (US, Mexico, and 15 years), and ongoing UNECE harmonisation. I also am well acquainted with the person in charge of defect investigation at Transport Canada and have also consulted with the media on consumer issues related to vehicle importation in the past.
If you are a Canadian owner, please post in this thread and also detail your experience, if you aren't aware of this problem, you might want to check!
It's a little ironic how Mercedes-Benz Canada warns against importing a car from the US at a much cheaper price because they "will not support it" when the fact of the matter is that they won't even support the cars they sell (at much higher prices)!
See this thread for more info on the problem https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...m-sensors.html

Did you see any resolution on this problem? I've just encountered the same issue with my 2005 W203...luckily the oil hadn't destroyed the ME yet...but it will still cost $1,500 to get it fixed. Has anyone in Canada had success getting MB to fix this?

I actually called MB about this issue, that there was a tsb regarding a fix in the states. They asked for my vin and told me there was bothing related to my car.
I of coarse, talked to the guy and complained about the issue for a while and he said there was nothing he could do.
So I just picked up the parts and replaced the offeding parts myself. I wasn't going to let that mess with my wiring harness.
It's a pretty cheap and easy DIY anyways.

ok first of all in the us a recall can only be approved by the federal government probally the same in canada
the only way your going to win this is u have to get every owner to complain to your government
why dont u just drive over the border to the us?

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think it was ever an official recall in the states...just a Technical Service Bulletin. I've got an email in to MB Canada and am awaiting a response...not much hope though.

Got this response from MB:
"
Dear Mr. Siegle:
Thank you for your email.
We are sorry to learn that you are experiencing a concern with your C230. A review of our records show that your vehicle is not involved in a recall or a service action bulletin for the camshaft solenoid.
The campaign#2009100001 you provided is for the earlier Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and it is for to the installation of spacer between the brake and fuel line.
We also took the liberty of forwarding the concern you are experiencing with the vehicle to the attention the field service manager for the Western Region, Mr. Alan Evans and requested that he review the matter. Mr. Evans informed us that he will investigate your vehicle concern and you will be provided with a response as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to write.
Best regards,

Then I got a call from the dealership and they said MB would pay for half the cost of the parts only for the repair...better than a kick in the ***.

I was told it was an open campaign not a recall by MBUSA. I understand that an open campaign is if there is a problem repair it when it comes in to the dealer, a recall is an actual comunication between MB and the owner about an issue and bring the vehicle in.

The number 200910001 is correct and not for SUVs I dont know why they said that unless US and CA use diff recall numbers which is very possible since they are seperate corporate structures and companies. In the US that is the proper number
