Transfer case .....

my 2003 C320 4matic's transfer case is out...
european auto work said they can get the part for 1200 and labor 600...
When I make corner turns,, there is clicking sound in the middle rear...
Anybody had experience?
I found on Ebay that there is one for 600, from a salvage car. Is that reliable?
Also, where can I get it to fix for a cheaper price if I can get the part by myself?

Thanks sincerely...

Are you sure the transfercase is the root cause of the issue? Are you sure the rear differential is not making that noise? If I were you, I'd get a second opinion.

If the transfer case is indeed the cause of that noise, I would change the transfercase fluid and see if that noise subsides. How many miles on the car/transfercase? Has the transfercase fluid ever been changed on that car?

The car is 118K mile, i just got it 4months ago and i put 5000miles on it..
I am not quite sure but the mechanic in European looks quite sure about the transfer case is out..
I would ask the seller if he has change the transfer case before.
Does it really matter if the fluid is too old and it makes noise?

Thanks for answering, I appreciate it..

Changing the transfercase fluid is cheap and relatively easy [than to replace the transfercase]. You don't want to go thru the process of replacing the transfercase and then realize the issue is not resolved because the root cause is something else. I'd try inexpensive solutions first before attempting to replace transfercase. Also, for major repairs, I usually get a second opinion to avoid misdiagnosis. Take the car to any transmission specialist; they would have more experience in these problems.
