change out bad AC comp. ?

My 04 C230 K has 89,000 miles on it. About a month ago the AC would not blow cold. I put a can of R134 in, and the AC worked for about a week. I then put the dye in, and just now I can see the luminescent dye on the inside of the compressor pulley. How hard is it for the average do-it yourself type to change out the AC compressor? If it is really difficult, I guess I will take it to the dealer...any idea how much they will charge?

thanks all....

PS, four years of owning this car have been a pleasure...

it can be done with new o-rings but you will need to evacuate the system after serviceing. meaning you will have to remove the air from it and only a certified shop will have the equipment. removal is simple. remove the drive belt hoses and bolts. change o-rings and bolt it all back together. take it to a shop to have it charged.

thanx all

especially rabney72...your tutorial is sweet, will help a lot. Seal kit is $16.00 online...here goes, will let ya know how it went. My monthly payment on my (2004) is $350/month, (I paid $18,000 for clean 40,000 mi C230K) . Although this is the only problem I've had in 50,000 miles, ($2000 to fix the AC??). I think next time I'll lease a GTI...
