Anyone know what these 2 wires are in my trunk?

After taking off the trunk liner in order to remove my 3rd brake light, I saw these 2 wires. Anyone know what they are?

The only thing that I know of in the lid is for the emergency trunk release and possible wiring for a sat radio

+1 Definitely pre-wiring for something. I think the SAT radio is a good guess.

The SAT antenna is in the roof at the rear on sedans.

Could it be pre-wiring for a reverse camera and/or distance sensors? Did they offer that in the Euro markets? If not that, possibly for a towing package?

Those are the pre-wire for the sat-sirius radio antenna. The sirius antenna is mounted on the trunk in the W203 except for the wagons where it is a roof mount. If you peel back the foam covers you will see blue and white Terk style connectors. The short leads on the antenna will plug to these. You will find the other end of this pre-wire in you passenger side trunk well. If you are pre-wired you will see an orange cable label SDARS and should also find a 12V wake up wire that powers up the sat reciever module.

As an FYI, I did the roof mount on my wagon and the antenna recently went bad. I will be replacing it and will take pics and do a DIY write-up as I did not when I initially installed it.

so what needs to be done for the radio, you install the antenna in the trunk, and is the head unit already set up to run it or do you have to wire in another head unit too?

If you are pre-wired, as in the cabling i mentioned above, from there you need to buy a Delphi SIRIUS SDARS sat receiver unit. It's a black box that mounts in the trunk area. There's a mounting bracket that come with it, as well as antenna. 2002-2004 use a D2B style and 2005 MY on uses a MOST style unit.

Once all is installed, you have to connect it into the fiber ring (this is done in the tranny tunnel passsenger-side under the side carpet, and then lastly it has to be version coded by the dealer with the STAR diagnostic computer
(or a shop that has STAR) you will then have a SAT radio soft button on your head unit and a call to SIRIUS and you are up and running.

It all sounds harder than it really is. Way cool to use your steering wheel controls, etc.

Not for 2005 sedans. It is in the trunk lid. I have factory Sirius and the antenna in 2005 was mounted on the trunk lid.

In 05 the SDARS receiver was not a factory option. It was installed at the PDI center or the dealer. The cars were all prewired through 2005. Then the sharp pencil guys took the wires out, and made it a factory option. In 05 the antenna puck was actually two antennas, that is why the trunk lid has two cables. One antenna is for the signal from space, the other is for ground based repeaters. Later models had a smaller puck with both antennas connected to a single cable. A 'Y' adapter at the receiver connected the single cable into the two cable inputs. The antenna mounted on the trunk lid requires a 20mm hole to mount it. You need a chassis punch or unibit to make a clean hole. A drill bit will damage the sheet metal. Be sure to prime and paint the exposed edge of shiney metal to prevent rust.
