Amen to that. I just picked up my 230 three weeks ago and I was wondering if you could tweak the internal settings to do just that. Hopefully, someone knows how.

sure you can tweak it. you just need the skills, equipment, and security clearence to rewrite and flash new software (which includes the number of blinks you want) onto the ECU. good luck with that.

The one touch feature is meant for highway speed lane changes where it is fine to have three blinks. In the city at lower speeds it is not supposed to be used.

I just prefer to have 5 blinks, but it's not like it kills me to hold the thing there MANUALLY just like I've done for the past 30 years of driving!

i believe the one-touch blinker is actually meant for when you already have clearence to change lanes (no cars in your way) and you're simply signaling to warn other drivers you're moving and to obey traffic laws (which require you to signal).
now if you don't have clearence, then you must put on your signal permanently to signal that you wanna get over (obviously).
with that said, yes, i believe that 3 blinks is probably enough given that you should only use the feature when you actually have plenty of clearence to get over. however, i can see the point that 5 or 6 would be better because generally most people (including me) feel more comfortable when the blinker remains on during the ENTIRE lane change and it's hard to do this with only 3 blinks (no matter what your speed).

That was EXACTLY my point. I really do want to be a bit more polite than three blinks. But, on the positive side, I finally own a car where I could change lanes that quickly without tipping it on it's side!!!

Think about it, the speed you are traveling has a lot to do with the time needed to change lanes. Assuming the same lane change angle it would take twice as long to change at 30 mph than at 60 mph. At 60 mph you have gone 264ft in three seconds, more than long enough for a safe change and about three blinks will have blinked.

also, my original point was that the one-touch feature is not just for highway driving. i believe it is more a matter of courtesy and obeying traffic laws than actually using it to move other cars outta your way. i think it should only be used if you already know you have clearence to change lanes and just want to let everyone else know you're changing. obviously, you should not use this feature if you plan on just flipping it on and going without first making sure you're clear to move.

I agree that 5 or 6 blinks would typically be more appropriate than 3 for most lane-change maneuvers.
About a week after having the car, I figured out that by tapping the stalk two times instead of once, you get an additional 2-3 blinks. Now I'm the habit of tapping it twice for the lane change. I get at least 5 blinks this way. Try it out!
