Look at the Max RPM, this little effer likes to spin. Remember, HP is a function of RPM. The higher you spin em, the more power they make, as long as they can breath good enough.

when is the next race? the race on TV this Saturday, did not show much, but it was good to know that the Coupe is going racing. It's ashame that TV coverage does not spread pics and info about all the car in the race and quite showing only the leaders. thanks for the good info, would be nice if they came to Daytona.

Speedvision Touring Cars
Yes, it would be nice if they spread the coverage around a little more to include all the entries, but one of the perks of being competitive is that you draw more emphasis upon yourself in the process. If you're not competitive, another drawwback is that you also won't make a lot of news, either.

Additionally, keep in mind that the series sponsor and TV producer, Speedvision, who also serves as the sanctioning body for this series, wants to reward the better funded entries that are up in the spotlight to showcase and herald their series.

Remember also, that MB just got started in this series (this was only their first race) and they are a private team, funded by Autohaus Pompano (a dealership) and not by big, corporate dollars like the factory, or manufacture sponsored entries. Autoracing is still a matter of dollars and cents, after all.

Mercedes-Benz has their factory money in Formula One World Grand Prix racing; the pinnacle test of motorsports. Yet, of course, so does BMW, Honda, Ferrari, Toyota, Ford and others, and these makes find a way to be competitive wherever they are.

This C-Coupe entry is still very new. They have already scored points and they are looking promising. If they continue to raise their level of competition, they may get the attention of the factory people at MB yet.

My original posting had a link for the series season schedule.

But here it is again:

http://www.world-challenge.com/2003/schedules.html

The remaining TV schedule is (all times EST):

Infineo Raceway Sat., Aug. 2 4:00 PM

Mid Ohio Sat., Aug. 23 9:00 PM

Road America Sat., Sep. 6 1:00 PM

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Sat., Sep. 20 2:00 PM

Road Atlanta Sat., Nov. 8 4:00 PM

San Juan Puerto Rico Sat., Nov. 15 4:00 PM

http://www.world-challenge.com/2003/tv-schedule.html

You may wish to browse the website for additional details, too.

Gee, I saw a lot of the Coupe-the leaders were lapping it at a pretty good rate. I just kept telling myself...It's a new car to the series...it's a new car to the series...

That’s exactly right.

This was their very first race. As a new entry, they are performing as good, and perhaps better, than can be reasonably expected. After all, believe it or not, they scored within the points (within the Touring Car Series), despite this being a first-run for them. This is quite rare.

It will take time for the car to develop, no matter what brand or configuration they’re running. By way of example, Dodge just introduced their new Viper Competition Coupe (into the GT Series) the very race before, and you may have noticed if you also watched the GT race, that they were being lapped quite a bit too. Mind you, in their older car, in the American Le Mans Series, they had just won championships. They now have to redevelop their work in this series.

BMW, Audi, Honda and Mazda have been in this series since the onset and it shows. Remember also, that many of these teams have factory (corporate manufacturer) sponsorship funding, while this new C-Coupe is funded by a private, but successful MB dealership in Pompano Beach, Florida.

The Autohaus Pompano team will progressively move forward. They’ve done this before, in other series. Who knows, perhaps if they move forward soon enough, they might even get MB looking at them and help with $$$. This always helps.

Don't look too hard for the Coupes on the Infineon Raceway (Sat., Aug. 2 4:00 PM) telecast. They didn't show.

Infineon Raceway - They didn't show.
I've been told that they will not be doing every race. This is because of the financial expendatures versus the developmental gains.

This said, I'm surprised that this was one of the races they elected to sit out. Probably because of its distance to them. They will likely stick to events within a certain range of their shop.

Next year, they will likely participate in more, if not all the events.

Technical specs of C230 coupe in '04-'05 Speed World Challenge TC
Found this bit of info from the World Challenge website on the technical specs of the C230 coupe that was used in '04-'05 touring car championship series. It's a C230 with M111 engine ie 2.3L NA 4-cylinder engine. FYI, they reduced the weight to 2700 lbs at the expense of losing a lot of interior metal.

Interesting. Great read for modders. Anyone know what the stock TB dia is? 60 seems a little small for an overbored TB on this motor. Displacement and compression is way up. This thing should be making well in excess of 200HP.

I found it interesting to read as well. At least it gives people more ideas, other than simple ECU tune, pulley, headers. Thought it would be slightly useful info.

No, I haven't. I also noticed that it said it was was a NA motor, but I thought the M111 engine was a 2.3L supercharged I4 engine. I'm so confused...

Indeed.

The M111 is supercharged, as used in the SLK and C-Coupe. However, that doesn't mean you HAVE to run it with a supercharger. Perhaps this class of racing forbids forced induction. Or, they figured they would get better dispensation from the rules by running N/A. Forced induction cars are usually allowed less displacment when competing in a mixed crowd. Perhaps heat soak is an issue where they run these races.
