M271 - Dirt in spark plug holes
I changed the plugs on my car yesterday for the 2nd time (~200K kms) and the spark plug holes were filled with dirt, rocks, and salt. I don't remember having this problem the 1st time I changed spark plugs (~100K kms). The front plug was awful, as a layer of slat had built up around the plug. I had to get a long sharp object to loosen the salt and dirt, then compressed air to blow all the crap out of the holes.
Looking at the coil packs there doesn't seem to be any sort of weather stripping to prevent crap from getting under the coilpack then falling down into the hole, especially salty water from northern winters.
Anyways I'm glad I was able to get the holes cleaned up without any crap falling into the piston chamber, and that I don't have to do this again for another ~100K kms by which time the car will probably be gone.
