Unhappy Brake Question...This part is missing!

Hello All:

Sometime ago I took my car to a “Non Mercedes” repair shop to have new rotors and pads installed. After the install he handed me the two sensors and said the pads I ordered did not have the slot to install the sensors. I decided to keep them and have them installed the next time around.

Since then I’ve been introduced to this awesome site, and after much searching and studying I decided to install the pads myself. The job went very well with no problems at all.

However when it came time to install the sensor, I could not find any place to connected the sensor to. I checked both the rear passenger and driver side, but found nothing. (Have not checked the front pads yet, will do that this weekend.)

Question, could it be that the previous mechanic broke off this part and was too afraid to tell me, or could this part have been broken off from hitting pot holes or the like? (The part circled and the cable are both missing.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
GPofLB.

Check to see if they are zip-tied to something further back.

the wires for the pad sensor are pretty fragile looking. It could have snagged on something during driving and ripped off.

There is a chart in the WIS that indicates which version of the w/S203 has which sensor where. As time went on, sensors began to disappear. My 2005 S203 has only one sensor on the front right inside pad. The sensor usually goes in the inboard pad.

The SAM can tell if the sensor is not plugged in, and will display a message in the MFD. If you have no messages, you have no cables or connectors either. You can keep the PEX sensor in the tool box for the front pad.

Update...

Thanks for the response, and here's the latest update.

I stopped by the dealer yesterday and to be honest, I’m more confused now than I was before.

The name of the part is: “Sender Unit/ “Travel Sensor”, with the part number: A 163 540 12 17.

After doing a search both on the internet and WIS/EPC, I have to say the part listed there is NOT the part in the picture I showed him.

So, the search continues…

My car came equipped with only one sensor (front passenger side)
No sensors on the back. I swap the front calipers to the ones from a 2005 c230 and those also came with just one sensor.
