Anyone else have more successful changing lenses stories to tell? I am going to order the W211 lenses today. Just want to make sure its really a DIY and not a mess.

i do. it isnt hard at all. i need to scan the page which detail folding the mirrors. i paid $26.50 for each W211 mirror blinker. I followed the instructions for attaching the jumpers and once i found out how to fold my mirrors it was a piece of cake. i installed them while my car was in for service. it's still at the dealer and i won't get it back until monday, but i will post pics once i get it back. thanks for all your help with the install. i will get those instructions posted straight away.

WTF! I thought Canadian prices are always less expensive than US prices, I paid USD77 for two yesterday!!! I had the right side installed and the left side is coming from another warehouse. Well, I couldnt find the silver clip, so I took out the whole mirror and unscrew all the parts inside and finally found the clip that you guys are talking about. When I do the left side next week, it will be a 5 min job.

I bought them at Hoehn Mercedes in Carlsbad. I was going to order from MB San Diego and they quoted me $36 each. My car was in for service at Hoehn and that's why I ordered them there, then I found out they were nearly $10 cheaper for each unit.
i'll scan the instructions for mirror removal monday. i left them in my car which is in for service.

Anybody know how to change the colors of the blinkers? I made my headlight turn signals white, and I'd like to have the side mirrors white too.

Just get the instructions of how to remove the mirror cover and you will be able to replace those orange bulbs. The bulbs on the W211 blinkers look white but appear in orange, but they cannot be replaced, you have to buy the whole assembly.

i'll post the instructions on monday. in the mean time, bend the mirrors towards the rear of the car, they wont break. stick a flat head screw driver in the slot and press the clip. let the mirror go back against the car and slide it off.

You should be aware that because the signals in the mirror are visible form both the front and rear, they are required by law to be amber. I doubt that you would be ticketed for changing them to another color, but it is a possibility.

using the W211 signals, they will satill blink amber, but the clear case and clear LED's give it a much cleaner look.

Argh, it gets so frustrating. Changing color of lights is supposed to be one of the more "harmless" mods, but it seems that it's probably the most difficult mod too. Right now I have clear bulbs in my mirror blinkers, but they're the wrong wattage right now, so they barely light up, but no more yellow in the light.

LEDs definitely make for a cleaner appearance, but those in the mirror and the instrument cluster are near impossible to change. So much for trying to make white-colored turn signals and instrument cluster... those 6 contact points on each bulb really confuse me as to what is to be used as a replacement. Sorry for the rant...

two questions

First, are the UK part numbers the same as the US part numbers (I know someitmes they are, sometimes they aren't)? And two, what are 'jumper connectors'? Are we talking about speed nuts?

Still love to see instructions from someone who said they would post them.

Although the clear/white lights add a distinct look for the car, they can be more difficult to stop during the day. The amber lights are much easier to spot, both during the day and at night. Plus when you see that color, you automatically know what they mean.

I cannot locate the release clip that everyone is talking about? Can someone show me where it is in this pic? The only thing I can find is the spring (black arrow), and there ain't no way that thing is coming off!
TIA

You have to bend it much further than that. It'll be on the inside of the shell, towards the side you were pushing it from. Push it at least 60 degrees to the rear, then look to the "front" of the mirror, you should see a slot with a metal piece visible through it. Slide a medium sized flat screwdriver into the slot, it'll pop it loose.

Yes, they are actually for the w211. But they do have a '203' part number so they may be on 203's somewhere in the world. Did mine on Friday-very cool.

BTW, thanks to others for the text.

Here is a pic. Passenger side, mirror being bent towards rear pretty aggressively. Clip is shown by arrow.

Are the mercedes cars with Power folding mirrors all exposed like that too? If so, those lenses could be jacked pretty easily. Only the W211 signal will work? are there any other vehicles that will work... like the R230? W163? or W215/220?

I saw one with folding mirrors the other day, there's a plastic "shield" covering the internals. You're right, it would be a bit too easy to vandalize.
