Question: what is the electrical humming after engine is switched off?
I'm just curious, when my w203 is switched off, in the cabin there is an electrical humming noise for a few minutes. I've always wondered what this is?

It's all the servos, excess air pump, fuel rail pump, purge system, EGR etc. shutting down after switch off

Even the ABS pump goes through a shutdown cycle. I think the air pump is probably the noisiest but it is all normal with a few solenoids clicking as well. There is a lot going on on these cars when you shut down.

Ahhhh, far too much complexity in the modern car which in my opinion is not warranted .
There are people having expensive problems with their SAMS ,ECUs ect mentioned in this forum every day.
Take a look at the old Soyez rocket. ,now 45 years old, & the only vehicle servicing the Space Lab. It is the most frequently used & most reliable launch vehicle in the world. It doesn't have all this newest technology & it puts people into space today!!

Thats the way things are headed. Its all about electrics and computer etc. Its the price we pay to have those added luxury and safety features. I bought the w203 well knowing that there were a lot of reports with electrical issues. I just hope when/if they start to come up, the warranty will cover them.

I noticed yesterday, after driving through a storm with; heater, fog light, wiper on full, rear window demister all going, it was louder shutting down than normal.
