2003 c230 k unknown noise and vibration comes on and off
i just bought this car and it is driven perfect without problem but once a while when i started the car or sometimes while i am driving it starts to give really crunchy noise something like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npwrv9P5PDo
it gives this noise stronger when it is on R or D but when it is on P the noise is mostly gone but vibration keeps going. if i stop and restart the engine couple times noise and vibration goes away. it is 2003 c230 coupe, 1.8L.
i took it dealer to get the service A and told them about it but since the noise and vibration doesnt come on all the time, they told me nothing is wrong but there is something wrong definitely when the noise and vibration comes on.
what would be the reason and what should i do in this case?
sound is more like chichichichi something like iron is touching to iron.

You may need a stethosope. A long screwdriver with the steel going through the centre of the handle sometimes does the job.
At first, at listening to your clip , I thought it was a worn timing chain & sprockets .
Now you mention it only occurs with the A/C on. It maybe your A/C pump or pulley , the aux drive belt , belt tensioner or other bearings in the aux drive system.
I would eliminate the aux system then thing about the timing chain.
How may miles has the car done ?

The noise comes the minute you load the engine. If I were to guess at the problem I would suggest Camshaft adjustor or Timing chain tensioners/worn chain. At the same time the M111 is a tough but somewhat crude beast from an NVH perspective.
Is it noisier when you first start the car if it has stood overnight? Does it improve as the oil pressure comes up at first start after a long stand?

If the a/c is on no matter when the sound comes on but if it is not, no sound. I figured out noise is something related with a/c but what about shaking? It does not happen often? Only once a while.

"but what about shaking"
The engine may be labouring at idle with the load of the A/C. Especially if the A/C load is higher than normal ie metalic binding noise.

Please answer my cold start after long standing question. Listen with the car door open.

yes, when it cold starts it gives more noise.
I took it to service again today and the car did not give any noise because it has been driven 50 miles just before but they made it wait 10-15 minutes and i also recorded a video with the noise and shaking to show them after all they checked and they said belt tensioner needs to be replaced and they are still not sure so that they will take out the belt and inspect everything over there.
they said that if it is only belt tensioner, it will cost me $350.00 is it normal?

Where are you. UK? Complete your profile. In SA that would be normal.
It might be the belt tensioner & that would be the first thing I would check because it's external & a known source of noise. Usually a high pitched squeek.
If it is a metallic rattle at cold start before the oil pressure comes up it is usually the timing chain tensioner or camshaft adjuster.
Good luck!
