Certified...help me decide who is bs'ing here

Hi,
so have been car shopping and stumbled upon OEM dealerships pushing "Certified" moto, however i was told by a non OEM dealer that that is nothing more than advertising gimmick...meaning if i buy a car from non-OEM and the car originally had 7y/100K warranty that the warranty does still transfer to the vehicle even if it was purchased from non OEM location second time around.
Now the OEM dealership i went into today said that the statement above isnt true and if i brough a car that i purchased at non OEM dealership for service within that 7y/100K time frame that they would not honor any servicing that should be covered under that warranty.
Who is bs'ing me here?
Thanks!

I think it would be BS if the warranty does not transfer to the OEM dealership. A warranty on the vehicle should be just that, a warranty on the vehicle, shouldn't matter where the car is bought/sold from.

a quarter mile at a time
Documentation on the warranty should state if it's transferrable or not.

No, call MBUSA to verify. Dealers these days are saying all types of crazy stuff, I called MBUSA to straighten that out. In my case (this was back in 2008) I was able to get a MB Extended warranty 7/100K even though I bought my CLS through a non-MB dealer. The terms were stated the car could not be grey market, and had to be inspected by a MB dealer before being allowed to get an MB Warranty.

Terms may change, always check with MBUSA first. Just a suggestion...

Car free at the moment
Tought to say, but it sounds like the two dealerships are talking about different things, and both are right.

The original factory new car warranty (4 years/50K miles in the USA) always transfers to the new owner.

A "certified pre-owned" (CPO) car has an extended warranty that starts either after the factory new car warranty expires, or immediately upon purchase if the factory new car warranty has already expired. Mercedes CPO warranties are cancelled if a car is traded through a dealer - any dealer, Mecedes or otherwise. The Mercedes CPO warranty does transfer in private party, person-to-person sales.

If you want to know the warranty status of any MB vehicle, just call the 800 number and have the VIN handy, they will be happy to confirm the warranty status and expiration date.

He's not buying a Mercedes. He's buying a Maxima.

Nissan's warranty goes with the car, until X years after its in service date or X amount of miles, whichever comes first regardless of where/how many people/etc buy/sell/own it.

Hyundai and Kia, however, have the 10/100,000 warranties - these are good ONLY to the original owner, not to anyone else as they are non-transferrable.

Where did he state that? Oh well, asking that question on the forum then...
