Leak on drivers side

I'm dripping clear fluid at the bottom of my bumper, in front of my front drivers side wheel. Constant drip drip drip.

I looked inside the engine compartment. All of the radiator/coolant hoses look dry. Checked the coolant tank - it's completely full.

Power steering and brake fluid tanks and they looked ok too.

Washer fluid? That looked bone dry empty, and it's in that front corner. However, I didn't see anything that looked wet.

Thoughts?

The windshield washer bottle is located behind the panel in the forward part of the driver side front wheel well. It is very difficult to see from up top. It most likely is a rubber seal for the washer pump; or pump for the headlight washer if you have bixenon lights.

Hmm, this sure doesn't look like an easy place to reach.

Anyone have a drawing? I'd like to figure out where the seals are. I have to figure out how to get in there - it's very tight.

Glyn, you're the generous one as always. I definitely see a few places that I need to look at in that first drawing...now I just need to get a flashlight and get dirty....

if you pull off the fender well liner, the tank will be exposed and you will see the pump(s?) The o-rings sealing them into the tank may have deteriorated. If not there, check on the bottom of the tank, I think there is a plastic screw-type deal down there. It may have come loose. If there is a hole in the tank itself, clay-type epoxy works great to seal it up.

So, got the word from the dealer this morning. The tank is cracked, and the seals and pump were weeping as well.

$560 before my service coupon, which will subtract another $75 from the total bill. Grrr.

I could have. But I just don't have the time for at least a couple of weeks to really tackle it. Kids are back in school, working at my main job, consulting on the side, and I already have a list of house projects to catch up from a summer of traveling for work. Sometimes getting things done is worth me spending the money on it. I chose to spend the money to get it fixed quicker than I could get to it.

Okay my turn. My car has this problem now, as well. I am not getting dirty trying to DIY and if anyone told me it would be $560 to fix it, I'd fall out of my chair laughing

The pump is $19.00 on RME and the tank is $52, but with no impact damage of any kind I don't see how the reservoir would crack. I'll pick up the pump and have my indy do it. The car only leaks fluid if parked facing uphill. And it is a very slow drip. I haven't had to add any since the weekend.

CLK350
Hi all. Just fixed my '07 CLK350. It looked like it was the rubber washer where the pump pushes into the reservoir (#70 in the drawing above). Dealer said "happens a lot. The washer gets old." $7.00 later put the whole thing back together, including the fender well cover and sure enough, still leaks. Took another look, this time just removing the fender well cover to get to the pump. Put Teflon tape around nipple on pump (#60) and re-attached elbow with hose. Voila. Fixed. Decided to get a small hose clamp to ensure it won't come lose. Instructions: 1) Remove the plastic wheelwell-undercar plastic cover on the driver's side. It helps to raise the car and to have the wheel turned to the left. There are 4 plastic rivets and 3 10 mm head screws. 2) Unclip white plastic strap (#20) on rear of reservoir that holds wires and hose in place. 3) Lift out pump from reservoir - just push up from bottom with a screwdriver and slide up and out. Swing pump out to be able place a worm-gear type hose clamp on the elbow where it attaches to the pump. Seems to be a rather stiff plastic material that once stretched probably would continue to leak. 4) Reattach white plastic strap. 5) Insert pump back into reservoir. 6) Reinstall plastic cover.

I just fixed mine with a piece of hose.
I think if you examine the fitting carefully you will find that it is cracked like mine was from the interference fit against the washer pump nipple.
The plastic gets old and cracks from the vibration probably.

my 2001 C320 has two pumps, a large white one on the left, and a black one on the right. Which one is for windshield and which one for headlights?

It appears the big white one is leaking a bit. Drips imperceptibly for days.
